The Motorola Softswitch architecture is a distributed circuit switched architecture delivering simplicity and reducing operating costs when compared to traditional circuit core networks. The architecture enables separation of the MSC server and the Media Gateway (Voice/CSD) bearer functions. Long distance traffic is localized wherever possible and management functions are accessible through the Media Gateways (MGW). It can also engage in bearing voice, multimedia and narrowband services, and converting service stream formats between different standards/networks.
