Here’s a thumbnail sketch of Motorola biometric applications already in use.
  • US Army—Iraq: A civil and criminal automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) that is scalable up to 20M records.
  • Registered Traveler, Transportation Security Clearninghouse (TSC): a Biometric Identification Solution expedites security screening processes and provides an extra layer of safety for passengers who volunteer information.
  • Serbian Ministry of Interior: A 10M record national ID, passport and driver’s license system issuing International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant secure documents using the latest smartcard and multi-biometrics fusion technology.
  • Switzerland National Police: A national AFIS with finger-print enabled border checks and refugee management.
  • Belgium Refugee Bureau: A national AFIS system for immigration, refugee verification and civil background checks.
  • Norway: a multi-modal (up to 10 fingerprints, 2D facial image, and signatures) biometric enrollment system for e-Passports and visas.
  • California Welfare: A 7M record AFIS solution to reduce fraudulent claims statewide.

Interoperability—Border guards need to share information across regions, agencies and networks to prevent illegal entry. Motorola Biometrics plays a leading role in defining international standards with the International Standards Organization (ISO), INCITS, and ANSI/NIST governing bodies.
