Motorola's Horizon 3G-nx fiber distributed RF solution can provide targeted or wide area coverage while reducing cell site and backhaul costs in UMTS networks. The solution allows the ""pooling"" of baseband units in an existing cell site environment and the location of the Remote Radio Unit as close to the required area of coverage as possible. This capability both significantly reduces OPEX and RF loss, while increasing the flexibility of cell site deployment.
The innovative Horizon 3G-nx fiber solution enables the separation of modem frame and Remote Radio Unit over a fiber link of up to 40km in length (expandable to 100km through daisy-chaining of the remote RF unit).
