Voice Recognition (VR)*

"Please say a command."

You're in control. Place a call by speaking a name or a string of digits. Voice recognition technology converts human speech into text. This can be either speaker-dependent, typically requiring a single user to "train" the product to recognize one voice, or speaker-independent, wherein the product can recognize any user's voice.

Examples of speaker-independent voice commands on selected devices include:

• Call <Name or #>
• Go To <Shortcut>
• Check <Item> (Items include: Signal strength, Voicemail, Messages, Missed Calls, Battery Level, Time and Date, Volume, etc.)
• Play <Playlist>

Voice Recognition is convenient. It also complements compatible Bluetooth-enabled wireless headsets and car kits. And it can be used with or without speakerphone. It's as easy as 1-2-3 SPEAK. So go ahead, speak it into existence.

Launch the Voice Commands / Voice Dialer application either by:

1. Selecting the Voice Commands / Voice Dialer application from the Main Menu of applications.
2. Pressing and releasing the Voice key on the side of the phone.
3. Double tapping on the 'Home' key (for Motorola Android products only).

How to use Name Dial:
Place a call by speaking a name.

1. Launch the Voice Commands / Voice Dialer application.
2. After being prompted to “Say a command”, reply "Call ".
3. When prompted, say the name of the person stored in the phonebook. If there are multiple numbers stored for that name, the phone will ask " Which number?" If the phone recognized the name, it dials that number. If the phone asks to repeat a name, say it again. If the name is not valid or is not recognized, the phone does not place the call.

How to use Digit Dial:
Place a call by speaking a phone number.

1. Launch the Voice Commands / Voice Dialer application.
2. After being prompted to “Say a command”, reply "Call ".
3. When prompted, say the phone number you wish to call. If the phone recognized the number, it dials the number. If the phone asks to repeat a number, say it again. If the number is not recognized, the phone does not place the call.

Text-to-Speech (TTS)

"The time is 7:00pm. The date is November 1, 2006."

Text-to-speech technology generates speech from a form of text so that you can have your phone speak to you.

Examples of text-to-speech features on selected devices include:

• Spoken caller ID
• Readout of Settings Menus
• Readout of Phonebook Contacts
• Readout of Digits Dialed
• Readout of Alphanumeric Characters Pressed

These features can be enabled within the Sounds, Phone, or Accessibility settings within the device. For Android devices, please refer to the Apps for Accessibility page for more information on using this feature.

Voice Playback on iDEN Devices

Many of the latest iDEN devices include a Voice Playback menu. For example, the i580's Voice Playback menu allows users to control features that use a simulated voice to guide them through phone menus and through placing and receiving calls.

How to edit your Voice Playback options:

1. From the Main Menu, select Settings and press the OK button.
2. Scroll down to highlight Voice Playback and press the OK button.
3. Scroll down to highlight the available options and turn them On or Off in order to suit your needs.

Specific Options in the Voice Playback Menu:

Speak Text - Controls whether the user hears a simulated voice as they navigate through phone menus, place and receive phone calls.

Speaker Caller - Controls whether the user hears a phone number or name that is assigned to a Contact when they receive an incoming phone call.

Voice - Allows the user to select the voice that sounds when they activate the Speak Text or Speak Caller options.
