February 27, 2012 : BY Motorola

UPDATE: To get the latest information on MotoCast, please visit the support page.

Welcome to Mobile World Congress! Once again the Motorola Mobility team has descended upon Barcelona en masse to attend Europe’s biggest mobile conference – showcasing our latest technology, software and services for work, home and play.

Whether you are interested in the latest smartphone and tablet devices, innovative software that delivers the new ‘must have’ feature, or technology that transforms the way consumers experience entertainment at home and beyond – we’re showcasing it all.

But we’re not just talking about the “fun” stuff this week. With growth of BYOD (bring your own device) work cultures, the subsequent consumerisation of IT, we’ll be talking about how we’re enhancing Android’s enterprise capabilities to deliver powerful, secure, sophisticated mobile devices to the business and enterprise market.

Motorola’s Business Ready devices are spearheading the growth of Android powered devices in the enterprise with more than 20 models of smartphones and tablets launched over the past three years, and recently announced devices such as the Motorola RAZR offer industry-first features such as FIPS 140-2 government-grade encryption.

Other productivity tools include MotoCast™ by Motorola for remote file access, Smart Actions for task automation, and Citrix® GoToMeeting® for collaboration while on the go are also ensuring our Android devices are ready for business.

We’re also ensuring our devices are the preferred tool not just by “consumers” but also the IT team, with the launch of a brand new MOTODEV for Enterprise resource center which allows developers to quickly, easily and securely deliver and deploy in-house or commercial applications and services. Check out the full press release here.

It’s going to be a busy and exciting week here at Mobile World Congress and we’ll be bringing you news, views and content from the show on a daily basis.

Also, be sure to check out the MOTOACTV™ #MWCMarathon competition we’ll be running during the show to see how you can be part of the action.

MOTOACTV Hits the Ground Running at the NYC Half

February 27, 2012 : BY Motorola

Whether you’re just getting starting running or can zoom along at a 6-minute mile pace, training is an important part of any race you run. The trick to good training is staying motivated, and MOTOACTV is here to help.

On Sunday, March 18th, more than 15,000 runners will put on shorts, lace up their running shoes, and set off for the NYC Half Marathon. Follow along as four runners share their workout routines, favorite playlists and tips as they train for it with MOTOACTV – the official entertainment sponsor of the race.

Meet the MOTOACTV NYC Half Marathon Ambassadors

Linda Chan

A self-described beginner, Linda has run half and full marathons. But, like many of us, she has a hard time making the move from couch to pavement. On New York City’s cold winter days, she’s more than happy staying inside where it’s warm. So she’s hoping MOTOACTV will give her that extra push. Follow Linda @RunningReader as MOTOACTV helps take her training to the next level.

Elizabeth Maiuolo

Elizabeth started running after a sudden heart attack when she was in her late 20s. Refusing to give up on her health, she ran her first NYC Half Marathon in 2006 and her first New York City Marathon in 2008. Now with a clean bill of health, everything about her life (including her job as a training coach) revolves around running. Follow Elizabeth on her blog Running and the City as she runs for her health with MOTOACTV.

Neil Strahl

Neil is a married father of two teenagers who began a more strenuous fitness regimen three years ago to look better and take advantage of the mental escape exercise provides. Neil enjoys spinning and triathlons and has recently added marathons to his repertoire. Follow Neil @NeilStrahl as he uses his MOTOACTV to spice up his training routine.

Karla Bruning

Veteran journalist and self-proclaimed “running nerd” Karla Bruning writes for The Washington Times Communities, where she is Sports Editor. When she’s not hitting the ground reporting, Karla’s usually running long distance. Follow her blog Run, Karla, Run, where she geeks-out with MOTOACTV.

At Motorola Mobility, Engineering is in our blood

February 24, 2012 : BY Motorola

It’s National Engineers Week and we’re celebrating the many contributions of our engineers at Motorola over the past 84 years.

Motorola was a true pioneer in personal communications. We introduced the world’s first commercial portable cellular phone. We even invented the groundbreaking Six Sigma quality improvement process, which became a worldwide standard for excellence. Check out this Motorola timeline to see many of our accomplishments over the decades, and read an excerpt from our archives below.

This video features some of our current innovators discussing their passion for what they do and reflecting on the role engineering has played throughout history:

In the 1960s, one of the U. S. space program’s most ambitious goals was to land a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth. In 1968, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) began manned Apollo flights that led to the first lunar landing in July 1969. Apollo 11 was particularly significant for hundreds of Motorolans involved in designing, testing and producing its sophisticated electronics.

Motorola supplied thousands of semiconductor devices, ground-based tracking and checkout equipment, and 12 on-board tracking and communications units. An “up-data link” in the Apollo’s command module received signals from Earth to relay to other on-board systems. A Motorola transponder received and transmitted voice and television signals and scientific data.

Aboard Apollo’s lunar excursion module (LEM), a Motorola transceiver sent radio signals to three Earth-based receiving stations where Motorola FM demodulators converted them for radio and television broadcast. Motorola equipment enabled millions of people to watch and listen on July 20, 1969, as astronaut Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon–250,000 miles (400,000 km) away–and announced, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

We’re giving away 10 MOTOACTV fitness tracker / smart MP3 players at Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona – and you can win one just sitting on your couch.

Not familiar with MOTOACTV? Get up to speed here.

So here’s how to win yours.

Europe’s biggest mobile event, Mobile World Congress, takes place over four days, February 27 – March 1 in Barcelona, Spain. Motorola Mobility will be there in full force, showing off our latest stuff – including MOTOACTV.

Each day of the show, we’ll have Moto Athletes putting MOTOACTV to work on a treadmill and stationary bike.

All you have to do is tell us via Twitter how many kilometers you think they will cover that day. (Yes, kilometers – they’re on the metric system over there.)

Before 19:00 CET of each day (day 1, 2, 3) or 16:00 CET on Thursday (day 4) enter the contest by sending a tweet to: @MOTOACTV

In the tweet, ensure you use the #MWCMarathon hashtag, for example:

@MOTOACTV Athletes will cover X.XX kilometers in the #MWCMarathon on Day X/Today

And insert the number of kilometers you think will be covered. The two closest estimates each day will win.

Also…there are two extra chances to win a MOTOACTV.

On day 2 (February 28) of the show Iwan Thomas, former Olympian, World Champion and MOTOACTV user, will be making a special appearance on the MOTOACTV stand.

He’ll be explaining how MOTOACTV has been helping his training regime and will run two miles on the treadmill, one at 13:30 CET and another at 15:00 CET. For your chance to win, tweet to: @MOTOACTV before 13:29 CET on February 28 what you think his fastest mile time will be using the following format:

@IwanRunner will have a fastest mile time of [X]mins & [X]secs in the #MWCMarathon

And insert the time for Iwan’s fastest mile.

The winners will be announced via Twitter on the morning of the following day and a full list of winners will appear on our blog on March 5th, 2012.

Please note that all features and supporting services of the MOTOACTV device may not work in every country.

Please click here for the full terms and conditions.
