Motorola’s history of innovation: the original RAZR

April 24, 2012 : BY Motorola

If you’ve had a long relationship with Motorola devices, chances are that you toted a MOTORAZR around in your pocket. We’re not talking about the DROID RAZR by Motorola you’ve come to know and love, we’re throwing it back to the original RAZR.

The super-stylish MOTORAZR set a trend for cell flip-phones– starting with its launch in 2004, starting the trend of thin being in. More than 130 million devices were sold, making it the best-selling flip-phone of all time.

But, there’s more to this beloved device than flipping-to-answer and text messaging with T9 word. Innovation was at the heart of the MOTORAZR. The 13.9 mm thin phone used aircraft-grade aluminum to achieve several design and engineering innovations, including a nickel-plated keypad. It was sturdy, strong and stylish.

Our history of innovation didn’t start or stop with the MOTORAZR. Visit our decades of milestones on Facebook to take a peek at the advances that Motorola has made and tell us your favorite MOTORAZR memory in the comments.

loved my Razr when I went touch screen I passed it my brother-in-law and he passed it on to a niece and it was still running strong for three more years till it finally got lost. I sure wish AT&T carried the new one. I am currently rocking the Atrix and like it real well.

I got the phone 6 years ago, from my parents as a gift! It was the coolest phone ever and I knew that all of my friends wanted one, but I was the only one that had it…and I walked around very proud through the high-school corridors hoping that some one will at least text me…

Ah the glory days…But I still have it, and the battery still holds 4 days! Its a brilliant phone, and if my husband wouldn’t have given me a newer one, even now, it would still be my main phone. I simply love it!

Yes, MOTORAZR is the most beautiful piece of art. These day, I don’t really care how peoples look strangely at me as I flipped my RAZR. Although this phone got left behind nowadays, as long my RAZR is in my pocket I feel very proud of it. I play with my RAZR everyday, I really cherish my moment with RAZR. Today, my 6 years-old RAZR had broke its wings. But still, I always look at it everyday. Waiting for it to shine again. Thank you for making my day RAZR…

I remember my Razrs. I had the first and the second editions. I remember getting my second one and, after a month, I gave it a ride on the side rail of my F-150 for about 2 miles until it fell off and I … RAN OVER IT. It still worked, although barely so as long as it was kept in its leather case. It did die, though, but just as my replacement came. I loved my flip phones, but I reckon the Android “Smartphone” is progress… *sigh*
