Motorola Mobility Foundation helps launch app that works to stop violence before it happens

September 19, 2012 : BY Motorola

With the help of a Motorola Mobility Foundation empowerment grant, the team behind the Circle of 6 iPhone app was able to develop and launch a version of the app for Android. The Apps Against Abuse Challenge enlisted the help of many state and national organizations who volunteered resources to help developers that wished to learn more about domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Designed for college students, but useful for everyone, this unique mobile app makes it quick and easy for users to reach a chosen circle of friends and let them know where they’re at, and if they need anything.

That means whether you need help getting home or a convenient interruption, you can let your circle know where you are and how they can help. And because icons were used to represent actions, no one can tell what you’re up to except you. Take the car icon for example. Touch it and it sends a “come and get me” text message to your group and even includes a GPS map location.

The app was one of the winners of the “Apps Against Abuse” technology challenge launched by Vice President Joe Biden, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in July 2011. The challenge was designed to find new ways to reach teens and young adults to prevent dating violence and sexual assault.

Download the app for free at the Google Play Store. Android version 2.1 or higher is required to run this app.
