Being perched nearly 5,000 feet above sea level, and looking down and around the Grand Canyon, is truly one of the most beautiful visual experiences in the world.  To help us understand the significance of the 5,000 feet between where we stood and the bottom of the canyon, our guide explained that it was 80 degrees or so at the floor of the canyon, while we were feeling 45 degrees with chilly winds.

No camera can replace actually seeing it for yourself, but if we must have pictures, the ones taken on the HDR setting of the DROID RAZR HD BY MOTOROLA are pretty darn good. Take a look and see:

What’s better than a good old fashioned BBQ in Texas? A big Android-flavored BBQ in Texas, that’s what.

This past weekend, Motorola took part in the 3rd annual Big Android BBQ at the Hurst Convention Center near Dallas-Fort Worth.

So what’s it all about besides delicious, falling off the bone grilled meats? Big Android BBQ (yes, that’s what they call it) is a huge mobile technology conference for Android developers and fans to come together and see the latest and greatest offerings in the Android world, as well as sneak peeks at what the future might hold. Our crew on the ground took it all in, and enjoyed some BBQ when not manning the booth.

Tips & Tricks

Learn to take photos that rival the best of the pros with your new DROID RAZR M. Here are some tips that might inspire you to study at the International Center of Photography or at very least earn you some bragging rights.

Tip #1 – Keep the camera app handy
It may sound basic but having the Camera app ready to go at a moment’s notice lets you capture the shot as it happens so keep your camera app on your home screen. With DROID RAZR M, it’s already there, ready to be launched at the lockscreen.

Tip #2 – Shadow and light
Generally, natural even lighting helps ensure a good shot.  With DROID RAZR M, you can set your camera to different “Scene” settings such as Landscape or Sunset to take advantage of available light. The sunset setting is especially useful in low light as it creates richer colors.

For a photo of a brightly scene that also includes deep shadows, use HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode. HDC captures multiple exposure levels (low, medium, high) and combines them into a single photo for vibrant colors and more detail in both light and dark areas. It is usually best for:

-Landscapes with bright sky and shaded hills or foliage.
-Sunny-day portraits with lots of contrast.
-Backlit scenes with dark shadows and streams of sunlight.

Just remember, you don’t want to use HDR in every situation. Action shots, low-light indoor photos or using flash won’t give you a high-quality photo in HDR.

Tip #3 – A steady shot is a great shot
Shaky hands can spoil the shot but DROID RAZR M features image stabilization to help improve your photo. Nonetheless you want to be as still as possible. Here are a few ways to get more stability: hold the phone with both hands and stabilize your elbows against your body; lean against a sturdy object such as wall or tree; or  place the phone on a solid, non moving surface. A great way to make sure your shot is clear is to tap the area of the screen to focus.

Tip #4 – Timing  & position
Most smartphone cameras have a delay between the time you press the shutter button and when your photo is actually captured but DROID RAZR M’s near zero shutter lag helps negate that problem. Multiple angle shots of the same scene or subject is easy  with the DROID RAZR M’s multi-shot mode. Shoot up to six photos in a burst to help improve the odds of capturing that memorable moment.

Tip #5 – DROID RAZR M’s special effects
Photography through the DROID RAZR M camera lets you take a wide variety of photos with different tools including Effects. Shoot outside the box with “Aqua,” “Whiteboard,” “Negative” and other filters that create a distinctly different and rather artistic photo.

Day in the life with SMARTACTIONS™

October 21, 2012 : BY Motorola

“Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged a comb…….”

Great song, but perhaps not a great way to live life. If you need a little help to maintain order and minimize chaos in your daily life, the SMARTACTIONS™ app by Motorola is just for you.

SMARTACTIONS is an app that automates dozens of everyday tasks so you do less fumbling with your phone. It’s free and pre-loaded on the three latest members of the DROID RAZR family by Motorola, the DROID RAZR M, DROID RAZR HD, and DROID RAZR MAXX HD. More about SMARTACTIONS and other compatible phones here.

The app is there for you 24 hours a day to make sure life’s moments are on when you want them to be, and off when you don’t  Let’s see how a typical day can unfold with SMARTACTIONS on your phone:

You rise and shine. Grab the phone and see what you missed….night-owl friend texted at 1 AM. European stock report email newsletter came in at 3 AM. And an unrecognized number called at 5 AM.

But thanks to SMARTACTIONS you slept right through them all, and still had peace of mind knowing that your VIP list will always be able to get through, while the rest won’t.

Shower, snack, out the door, and into the car where you enabled ‘drive mode’ on the SMARTACTIONS app. Synced with your bluetooth headset or vehicle dock, your phone will recognize you’re driving and launch turn-by-turn navigation, increase ringer volume, announce the names of incoming callers, and auto-reply with a text message if you so desire. Our Vehicle Docks and Bluetooth Headsets help you drive more responsibly while staying connected: you can use your voice to search for destinations, send texts or email, play music and more. Echo-cancellation and noise reduction make sure you’ll always be heard.

You arrive at work, double check your meetings for the day and have your ‘meeting rule’ ready to go. No more embarrassing rings or vibrating phones to worry about. The SMARTACTIONS Meeting rule turns your ringer to silent when there’s a meeting on your calendar.

Dinner and drinks after work are in order after a productive day at the office, and SMARTACTIONS is there once again to help keep your battery going. Dead smartphones just won’t do.  The app has battery-saving settings that keep you in charge of your charge throughout the day. The Low Battery Saver is a great example. This Smart Action will pay attention to how much charge your battery has and change settings to conserve what’s left. At 40% power, it can dim the display; at 30%, it can slow down data usage. You pick the points and you choose the changes.

And even the most diligent planner forgets something, some of the time. SMARTACTIONS is intuitive. It learns how you interact with your phone and has suggestions for rules that keep you in control of your day. Of course, you know yourself best, so you can always create rules from scratch, or customize the suggestions that come your way.

After a fun night out, time to get ready for the next day. You feel more intelligent than ever, knowing that your phone is more than just smart, it’s a trusted partner 24/7.

5 Reasons to buy the DROID RAZR HD BY MOTOROLA

October 19, 2012 : BY Motorola

The new DROID RAZR HD BY MOTOROLA on Verizon Wireless is now available in-stores and on Motorola.com. Here are just five reasons why you’ll want this phone.

1. Battery life: All day and all night
A single charge keeps DROID RAZR HDpowered up for an eye-opening 24 hours of performance*. Watch up to 7 hours of your favorite YouTube HD videos or listen to 20 hours of streaming music. Surf the web at 4G LTE speeds for 6 hours. And that’s just for starters—use the SMARTACTIONS™ app to get even more hours of fun. No outlet in site?  Relax.  It’s a DROID RAZR HD.

2. HD Display: RAZR sharp detail
DROID RAZR HD’s 4.7″ HD display delivers vibrant visual clarity — the kind you’d expect from an HDTV. Better resolution means easier to read texts, web pages, magazines and books. Deeper colors for viewing photos and videos in more true-to-life color. And a smoothness that draws you into movie thrills like never before. Gorgeous display, powerful, RAZR thin – what’s not to love?

3. RAZR Design: Incredible features. Impossibly thin
You’ll get brains and beauty with this phone.  At a mere 8.4mm thin DROID RAZR HD is the world’s most compact 4.7” smartphone. Yet it still has more features, more battery life, and more visual detail than competing LTE smartphones. Turn-by-turn directions, voice-activated text messaging, up to 24 hours of performance, and a full 4.7” of high def viewing area, all in a phone as thin as half a deck of cards.

4. Jelly Bean Upgrade: Keeping you ahead of your day
DROID RAZR HD runs on Android 4.0 and soon, it will be upgradeable to the latest operating system. Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, is packed with new features and apps that help you tackle your busy schedule. Get automatic, real-time reminders before you even have to ask. You’ll know about the sudden thunderstorm warning as you’re getting dressed in the morning, or the accident that’s backing up the freeway.

5. 4G LTE Network: Make every second count
With DROID RAZR HD’s super speed, you’ll forget what it’s like to wait. Running on the nation’s fastest 4G LTE network, Google Chrome lets you surf the web at speeds like you have at home. Jump between pages as quickly as you can type, this mobile browser “talks” with your desktop’s version—letting you sync up bookmarks and even view the same tabs you have open on your computer.

*24 hour claim based on average user profile. Actual battery performance will vary depending on signal strength; network configuration; features selected; and voice, data and application use.

Motorola APPy Hour: Real life stress relief

October 18, 2012 : BY Motorola

Gotta get to the airport two hours before our scheduled flight departure. In theory, that’s a great idea, but reality often gets in the way, and all of a sudden we’re behind schedule. With the FlightAware Flight Tracker app, we can easily check the status of our flights, and know whether all this stress is necessary or not.  The app tracks real-time flight info and lets you see the live map flight-track of any commercial flight worldwide. Set it up to send you flight alerts and information on airport delays.

We try to keep life organized like a box with a pretty bow tied around it. But real life parenting has a way of doing the unexpected, and then it’s important to have other tools at our disposal to rise to the challenges:  The babysitter unexpectedly can’t come over after school, leaving the kids alone; Their ride home from soccer practice fell through after everyone left; Your adventurous teen decided to mosey over to the wild side of town. Stuff happens, but with the Life 360 Family Locator App, you can have some comfort knowing where your family members are located, what safety points and threats are nearby, and when anyone is safe or needs help. You can’t control everything, but you can stay in control a little more easily with this app.

Work, school and play have all merged in an always on world, and you and your friends/coworkers/clients are all about sharing. Videos, photos, documents, yes even spreadsheets and presentations have infiltrated your life 24/7. But here’s the good news. WIth the Google Drive App, you can keep everything and share everything directly from your Motorola phone. You can view, upload, share, edit, organize and more, all from your device. You can also make files available offline for those times you don’t have an internet connection. If we must always be “on”, at least we can have all of our files in one easy place to save us time and give us peace of mind. This app let’s you do it all, while mobile.
