What year can I plan on getting a Bionic Jellybean upgrade, or even an ICS upgrade? You’re very close to losing a customer.

    • Mr.E

      Do an update check…

The Bionic is getting ICS this weekend…

..so where’s the Droid 4 fit in all of this?

  • Verlin Craig

Well i own an atix 4g and after you bailed on upgrading it bought a atrix hd out of contract off ebay. So i guess i wont see the $100 rebate.

    • http://twitter.com/Lehjr1 Leon

you’ll be lucky to see any updates for that Atrix HD

  • Brandon

So if my phone is older i get $100 rebate? Does that cancel out an upgrade rebate? I got the droid x

  • BADDINOROX99

oh yeah were gonna get jellybean next year on July when every other device is on
keylime and the bionic is barley gonna get ics by then

Feels pretty good to be a Razr Maxx user right now. Thank you Motrola.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kino2202 Joaquin D Ayala

wait a minute, does this mean that the razr maxx and razr 4g are getting jb?

      • http://twitter.com/TheNintendo64 Drew

Razr 4G? They’re both 4G. But if you mean the Razr and the Razr Maxx, then yes, they’re both being upgraded.

  • http://www.facebook.com/christopherrmartone Christopher Martone

What if you want a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and are on Verizon?! Not a single one of those phones has one. I am coming from the Droid 3, and I can’t upgrade to a Droid 4!? I was very excited for this “deal” as I finally had some hope to be rid of the Droid 3 that you no longer support and now my hopes are crushed.

    • Anonymous

Droid 4. I have one and love everything about it, except the screen. It’s basically a RAZR in terms of hardware and specs (including ICS and a promised Jelly Bean update to come), but has a pentile screen instead of the RAZR’s nicer AMOLED. There’ll probably be a Droid 5 at some point too.

  • Anonymous

What about the original Droid X? A family member is looking at upgrading to the RAZR HD MAXX, and $100 would make that purchase automatic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jason.paul.sanchez Jason Sanchez

Why is the Droid X not on the list?

    • http://BandM-Services.com/ Billy W.

Because it came out in 2010…

  • http://twitter.com/Lehjr1 Leon

Sorry, I don’t see the Atrix HD as being an upgrade when it has the same amount of RAM, but less space and features than the original. Not to mention those that bought those expensive accessories would have no use for them since they don’t work with the Atrix HD. #MotoFAIL

    • http://twitter.com/Lehjr1 Leon

Also doesn’t help when most people who got these devices in 2011 are stuck in a contract until 2013. So either Motorola is morbidly stupid for overlooking that, or incredibly smart for doing this as nothing more than a PR stunt. Either way, you’d have to be pretty gullible for falling for it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/fischerms Mark Fischer

What 100 credit to get a new phone the will be end of lifed in 8 months and no support like the Droid 3. Not a chance for me. Motorola can drop dead as far as I am concerned and btw I happen to like the device.

  • Anonymous

Thanks Moto, since most of my family has Droid 3s, you’ve just made it that much easier for me to convince them to go with LG’s new Nexus. Stock Android is so much easier to support than your blurry version of Android, it’s not even funny.

    Thanks again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/frederick.doe Frederick Doe

Sorry Motorola. I’m not falling for your tricks again. Ever since I got burned with a Droid X with a locked bootloader I’ve been committed to not buying Motorola products again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003258879205 Kevin McClain

There is no way in hell that I would opt for another Moto phone. This is a joke that they lied about the ICS updates for all of the 2011 phones. Promised an update for several months and then changed their mind and dropped it. I will throw my Atrix away before I would trade it in on another phone from Motorola. And Google is really at fault here. They slashed all of the jobs at Motorola and that is why the ICS update was not completed. I really was an Android fan, but I am getting an iPhone 5 come November when my upgrade is due. I will not trust Google or Motorola ever again. Nor should anyone else.

    • http://BandM-Services.com/ Billy W.

So, because you are upset with Motorola,… You are going to get a lesser phone???
Nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face…

  • Anonymous

What no vaseline with that $100?
What a joke, never again Motorola, NEVER.

    • http://twitter.com/Lehjr1 Leon

I got the motorola triumph and its prepaid how does this benefit me? Virgin mobile only has 1 motorola phone which is the triumph

    • http://BandM-Services.com/ Billy W.

Great time to switch to one of the “Big 3″ carrierers?

      • http://www.facebook.com/ViperBravo Cameron Nicholas Leggett

Nope, I will not go back to a big carrier, I also have VM.

  • Jim Kavanagh

So then my only choice, should I choose to trade in my Atrix, is to get a phone I don’t want, extend my contract, and be stuck with another phone that you won’t support? No sane person would take this offer if they’re with ATT.

Not only will I not buy another Motorola, I will never recommend them either. I wish I could do more, because this makes me mad.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kino2202 Joaquin D Ayala

cmon man, be reasonable . the razr hd’s are getting support as early as the end of the year, no way this company will continue to shoot it self in the foot. the company would go under. old dog new tricks i say.

Trade up for $100 discount? WTF i can sell my used Motorola Triumph on ebay or craigslist for more then that!

    • http://www.facebook.com/ViperBravo Cameron Nicholas Leggett

Simple Fact is that there are not “upgrade” options for the Triumph On VM anyway! IF Moto just upgrade the triumph to a better OS and fixed the crap performance they would not have to offer a credit for the Triumph.

  • carpalospo povedosky

I have a motorola Atrix 2 it’s a very good phone but how do you say that you can’t upgrade my phone it has perhaps one of the better hardware Motorola I’ve been committed to not buying your products again.

Way to go Motorola once again Triumph users get the low end of the stick. Virgin mobile deserted us and now you. Get your program together. My phone is worth more than $100 on ebay…just give us ICS already.

  • Anonymous

No way MOT. Have played your game far too long waiting for updates which never arrive. ie Droid X2. I’ll sell the freaking phone on craigslist and use the $100 toward a new nexus or windows 8 phone which will be updated.

    • http://profiles.google.com/kenny.strawn Kenny Strawn

Well obviously any phone (i.e. Atrix HD, Droid Razr M, Droid Razr HD, Droid Razr Mazz HD) released by Motorola after Google BOUGHT THEM OUT (yes, you heard that correctly: since May 2012, Motorola has been UNDER GOOGLE’S MANAGEMENT) would *definitely* have more timely updates than anything released before (once again, Google is also the very corporation that develops and open-sources Android to begin with) and yes, there is evidence of this with Motoblur becoming, since the Android 2.2 version (the zenith of Motoblur bloat), less and less bloated with every release.

With that being said, apparently Nexae still do for some reason get more timely updates than Motorola devices, but now that Motorola is under direct control of Google, I don’t know why Motorola still hasn’t released any Nexus devices. Maybe the fifth-gen Nexus will be made by Motorola; who knows.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ViperBravo Cameron Nicholas Leggett

Virgin Mobile users, Motorola Triumph, get a nice screw job on this deal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ViperBravo Cameron Nicholas Leggett

This offer server no point to ANY Prepaid users! VM Triumph users, me and others, get sh!t out this deal! ID LOVE TO have a RAZR compared to the Near POS Triumph i have now. Ive used the RAZR MAXX and would love to have one, but im on VM to same money. Triumph is a Single core Snapdragon 1Ghz phone with 512 memory and 2Gb of total internal memory, more than enough to be upgraded beyond the default 2.2 OS it stuck with!

I would not even give my mother, a VM LG Optiums V user, this Triumph as an upgrade because of the SH!T stupid flaws in it. Biggest BS is alog files that never get cleared out and just constantly build up to the point that they consume ALL available internal memory. Users have about 1Gb of the 2GB total and unless your a root user, like me, and know how to clear out the files you would have to a factory reset every time to clear the files out.

Second biggest issue, in my opinion, is a screen that is so finicky with touch that when it spazzes out its like the phone this your touching every part of the screen at one, except were your finger actually is. Also screen related is when, not all the time, the phone is on the charger the screen has a very high change of not responding properly. Finicky and spazzy like the other times.

Other issues range from poor to horrible GPS locking, issue with over heating, and the long term effects that has on hardware deterioration. Spastic and poor operational use of the cameras, quite often the cam apps just dont load right and you have to force close and retry.

This over all lack of support for the phone has turned off many prepaid users from Moto. I just rather see a 2.3.7 update for the Triumph, even it that’s all it got. Fix the bugs, witch have been called out since day one of launch, and Moto will make some friends again. As a side note the fact that Moto is now a Google owned company make the hole thing even more infuriating!

TY for letting my rant! I feel better now!

  • Scott Wagoner

I get that the DroidX came out before 2011 but why not offer the upgrade? It’ll keep me with motorola when I upgrade this christmas instead of whatever new Nexus phone comes out.

    • http://BandM-Services.com/ Billy W.

      I get your point, but…
Given your logic, they should give this offer to Original Droid Owners too, or maybe people that own Motorola Flip Phones? Or the old 1980′s Brick Phones…
They had to cut it off somewhere, and decided that was a good point for their budget…

    • http://BandM-Services.com/ Billy W.

Sure, it’s a thought… But I see that they had to cut off somewhere…
My Wife also has a DX, so it’d be nice… But it’s not our money to spend, it’s Motorola’s…

I dropped my atrix in water. I don’t see anything about the phone needing to work.

    • http://twitter.com/Lehjr1 Leon

In your case you may actually come out ahead then. The rest of us are pretty much dead in the water.

  • Anonymous

Fot a Verizon phone, you have to buy at Verizon? Wtf? It will already be $100 less online.

  • http://twitter.com/JoeRukka Joseph Ruchalski

If you participate in this program, you’re a dupe. $100 cash is not proper compensation for any of these phones in “good” condition. Read the fine print and you’re not even guaranteed something like a Visa prepaid card.

This is a clever campaign to refurbish, rebrand, and mark up these phones for sale on the pre-paid market. Motorola truly wants to profit from deceiving customers. No thanks. Sell your phones on craigslist or in-person and put it towards a Google Nexus device or unlocked phone of your choosing. #motofail #supportmymoto #atrix

  • sam howard

Thanks, but NO THANKS! The Photon 4G is the first and last Motorola phone I ever buy. One lie is all it takes for me to lose trust in a company. Keep your 100 bucks, donate it to the needy and good luck to the customers you will lie to in the future.

  • http://twitter.com/cfinch5 Finch

Motorola, I appreciate the offer but there is a couple major problems in your attempt to fix this situation.

    1) Verizon already offers a ‘Trade Up’ program for ANY device. You get a gift card towards ANY device. (So, you aren’t doing us any favor).

    2) I called Verizon and was told I still had to wait for my contract update date: May 2013. (I bought my Droid 3 in August 2011).

So, you aren’t offering anything Verizon doesn’t already, and I am stuck without ICS until MAY 2013.

Please fix this, or else I will move away from Motorola devices altogether.

  • Diogo

E o meu Defy+ seu filhos da puta? Queimou o alto-falante em menos de 1 mês de uso!!! Vem direto da china essa merda?

  • http://www.facebook.com/neil74 Neil Lovell

This is nothing more than a slap in the face. As a current Photon 4g owner, this will be my last Motorola phone. You cannot promise something, and then go back on your word. That’s bad business, and an almost flawless way to lose customers in today’s market. I will take my business to a smartphone company that actually updates their phones when they say they will, and if not will at least give it’s current customers some real options when it comes to unlocking boot loaders without losing features, and supports its users. Not a company that offers an incremental update to the flawed software that came on the phone, with the added bonus of locking the boot loader completely and permanently without letting the user know what they’re doing. It’s shady and unacceptable. Not only will I not buy another Motofail phone, but I will be spreading the word to family, friends, and anyone on the social networks I post on (which will reach a lot of people), and let people know what kind of half assed operation Motorola is and has been running. You guys have a mainline to Google, who OWNS you. And you still can’t release an update to a phone that I’ve had less than a year? This infuriates me. And it has infuriated many others as well. Let this be a lesson to you. Don’t f**k your customers. We f**k back

  • Achim Brueckner

No Atrix update. Sorry Motorola, that’s lame! Who do you think you’re competing with …

    Motorola Never More!

  • giga97

just wish US consumer can file a small claim lawsuit against Motorola.

  • Joe Zearing

I’m almost too disappointed with Motorola’s support of my atrix 4g to even comment. Thanks for being the first phone to have dual core, but now its a pos running a two year old operation system. What gives? I’ll never buy a non nexus device again.

  • Robert Higuera

Motorola can kiss off! They had their chance and continued shoveling BS after BS. It’s too bad to cause my phone (Photon 4G) is more than capable of running ICS as already shown by the Mod community. But since Moto decided to lock down the bootlaoder for good, now we don’t even have that option. I paid retail for my phone because It was advertised as “ICS ready” by Moto and I was looking to the future.

So to “appease” those they screwed over they are offering $100 dollar trade in towards another Moto phone? Well Eff off Moto. I’ll go with a competitor (most likely a Nexus phone so I’ll be sure to get the latest upgrades) and still get at least $65 dollars for my old phone. It may not be $100, but I at least get the satisfaction of not giving Moto anymore of my money. Not touching any of their products with a 100 foot crap covered pole.

  • Ted Windsor

Bought a Moto Defy one year ago with the promise of an update on Android. Only to have them release the Defy+ a few months later and leave us in the dust. Definitely won’t be purchasing a Motorola again, even if google’s manning the helm.

  • Anonymous

Thanks for neglecting my wonderful Motorola Droid.

  • Stephen Hale

Looks like my next phone is going to be a Samsung GS3 or a Note II.
I’m sorry Motorola but this “trade Up” program is a joke. The Photon Q is a worse phone than my Photon. Sure it has ICS but I have to give up a removable battery and a removable International SIM. What good is this as a world phone?? I want a slim sexy device with: The best screen available, 16-32 GB of storage, True international capable, and a high capacity removable battery. The Photon Q is lacking in all of these areas. This is before considering that it may not see a software update considering Motorola’s track record.

I would consider coming back to Motorola if the following happened:
    1) Hardware specs need to be on par with the competition. (Do you really think the Photon Q competes with the Galaxy S3??)
    2) Updates come regularly and come fast.
    3) Support for Unlocked bootloaders.

    OR
Motorola Joins the Nexus Program and puts out a good spec’ed phone.

I sure do hope they’re still selling the Photon Q is a year, WHEN I’M FINALLY ELLIGIBLE FOR AN UPGRADE.

  • Daniel Kian Mc Kiernan

I am unlikely ever to get another Motorola hand-set. But, come to think of it, I might not even have the choice of doing so when I truly want a new set.

Motorola is in trouble in the market-place; yet, instead of trying to recover the good will of its customers at the relatively low cost of providing OS updates (even if Motorola truly thinks that those updates wouldn’t be particularly helpful), its suits are digging-in their heels.

  • ATRenault

Sorry, but I’m not falling for this. I got a phone a year ago next month that is, hardware-wise, more than capable of receiving the newest Android versions, yet you’ve still not updated it. In the meantime, you’ve updated phones older than it. It may have not been the most popular phone on the most popular network, but it still one of your devices and I can not be the only one that bought one. If you don’t intend on supporting a device, you shouldn’t make it. I’m with what I think is the majority of people who are wising up and are just going to buy a Nexus-line device where we know we’ll get software updates without having to wait for you to decide if we deserve it.

  • http://twitter.com/FoxBelmont Fox Belmont

motorola u cheap us, i vever buy a motorola phone again, is the end for my atrix 4g.

  • Lakshith

What is this ? i Bought Atrix 2 somewhere in August 2012 and loving it which runs ICS very smoothly . why can’t Atrix 2 run JellyBean ? the specs are more than enough to run jelly bean smooth , and wtf ..you give jellybean to Electrify 2 but not to Atrix 2 which is so awesome than that ? almost all the phones you we can trade have the same specs (almost) why the heck aren’t we getting jellybean ?
Atrix 2′s got awesome specs + it’s light weight and super cool(can’t forget the camera shutter button which is really hard to find these days) and i don’t wanna trade this for anything else !
+ now you don’t even have outlets in asia (i’m from Sri lanka ) , tell me how the hell am i supposed to trade this for another one even if i want when you don’t even sell these here anymore ..
so MOTOROLA THINK ! all i’m saying is that we need Jelly bean update ! you can keep your 100$ we don’t need it , just give us the update
give the jelly bean update to the phone which has a processor more than 1ghz (dual core) with 1gb ram at least ? Come on , we love the phones we have

  • Craig

100$ back for a phone that cost more than 300$ less than a year ago is no deal at all, it would have been far better to just update your phones rather than trying to buy people off rather cheaply. Further more, if you failed to update these phones what is the likelihood that any of those phones will be updated. It is clear that you do not care about the quality of your products and I will never buy another motorola product ever

I traded in two MB860 phones, which I understand to be the Atrix 4G, and eligible for the $100 rebate. Purchased two Atrix HD. Motorola trade up program only gave me $25 each, saying my phones did not qualify. Complaints have gone nowhere. Perhaps they don’t know what they are doing? Or maybe I don’t, and the MB 860 isn’t a qualified upgrade phone?? I wish they would rectify.

  • Saptarshi Roy.

Why only the US of A as of now? Does the rest of the world comprise of invalids?

  • http://profiles.google.com/twaffle Thomas Charron

Anyone else find it funny that the on Sprint, the phone to trade up to… Doesn’t have Jellybean on it?

  • Charismagic

Google must be mad if they think that people will flock to trade up, spending more money in the process, for JB. For one, as a proud MB860 owner, I have unlocked the bootloader, loaded a nightly build of JB. Works great and didnt cost me a penny

Motorola has a long history of making commitments and not keeping them, so what if its Google at the helm of things? The same crappy people with the same crappy mentality still call the shots to screw consumers to make a fast buck. That doesnt change. Even Punit Soni, erstwhile Mot, now Google, made a lot of noises, some patronising at that and as usual, characteristically, failed to deliver.

NEVER again, Moto/Google. You dont deserve our trust.

Android is nearing the end of its development cycle anyway. Not many will realise/agree, but those in the know, know.

Nexus, Firefox OS, WP8 is where we will move next.

    Bad move, Mot/Google……
