DROID RAZR & DROID RAZR MAXX by Motorola receive Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean

March 7, 2013 : BY Motorola

We’re happy to announce today that the Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade is rolling out to DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX by Motorola owners in phases. Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean offers new features and apps that make your life simpler. With features like Google Now, Voice Search and expanded notifications, all of your key information is at your fingertips.

  • Google Now – We could all use a good planner to keep track of our busy lives. With Google Now you get notifications generated automatically and in real-time even before you ask. Now your DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX  can deliver sports scores, stock updates, weather reports and traffic updates so you have all the information you want even before you’ve had your morning coffee.
  • Expanded Notifications – You should be able to call or text someone back right from your missed call notification. With Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean you have the ability to do that and more. When you get a reminder about a meeting you can either tap once to snooze or even email participants to say you’re running late.
  • Voice Search – Ask a question and get back the answer you’re looking for, ranging from “When is the next bus?” to “Where can I find a great Mexican restaurant?” You’ll either get a spoken response back or search results that answer your query.

Will this update available to other country that are in GSM version in future?

    • Justice Dean

I could be wrong I am sure someone will correct me but all Razrs are the same for the most part. GSM update to the CDMA version is included in this update and a prior leaked update to ICS. I am sure you could make an update work for you. Follow up Matt Groff he seems to have a good grasp on all things razr.

nice, but when in India? any hopes?

  • Lin McDowell

Um…….the brand new Android upgrade page still shows the US Droid RAZR upgrade schedule as “expected” to roll out in Q1 2013. Time to update the page? :)

    • Michael Brown

I’m sure hoping that it updates to say 4.2 is coming soon so that all of the 4.1 phones can regain the use of group text messaging without having to use 3rd party add-ons. Glad to see your post because I was going to search for the update plans next.

The motorola link in the same page says the devices in India will remain on ICS.

Have wifi connectivity issues with Jelly Bean upgrade. Consider yourself lucky not to have it.

    • Lucas

In Brazil we are hoping this update. But so far there is no date set!SHIT!!!

I have moto razr. upgraded to jellybean yesterday and killed phone. Still hosed after factory restore and verizon is sending a whole new phone.

Downloaded jelly bean to two different phones last night. Did it via wifi, everything went fine but after the update we could no longer connect to our home wifi or my inlaws (both older routers). However at work both phones connected to routers (both new within last 3 months). Help out and roll out a fix, or we are going to have real problems connecting to wifi at most public places (older routers).

  • PD

Maybe its time for me to throw away my razr. No doubt Motorola sucks in terms of providing updates.

Just received the jellybean update 14MAR13 and it SUCKS! It wiped info off my phone(one note or stcky note) and according to motorola it cannot be recovered. I really need the info on those notes i created. Verizon tier 2 tech have no idea how to retrieve the info. Wiped my weather app. GPS no longer works! I’m not sure what else does not work. I’ll continue to play with the phone and am positive there will be other issues. This os update was poorly planned and poorly executed! Someone Help!!! I’ve spent about 4.5 hours working with the tier 2 techs at verizon with negative results. Motorola techs were really no help. Motorola tech told me the info is not recoverable and no way to restore previous os system. Someone Help Please!

    • Michael Brown

Same issues here. What I did was attach sync cable from phone to computer, then copy folders on internal and sdcard storage drives to my computer. Found old data in those folders. Cannot say this will work for you since you already spent 2 hours with people messing around trying to “fix” things. If the help you got did not reformat your storage drives, you may get lucky and find the data. After copying all data on both storage drives to my computer, I reformatted both storage drives, then did a HARD factory reset. Before doing that, make sure your contacts are backed up somewhere, like on VZW. Turn off auto restore under “settings” and “privacy” before hard reset. I recommend restoring only the programs and data that you really want back on the phone. You are correct about some old apps no longer working on 4.1.2, like the weather program. Good luck!

I upgraded my Razr Maxx last week and I like the new look my phone has, but there are several problems. I have tried to get them to work for the past week but so far no luck with most of them. The biggest two problems are that I no longer can connect to my wifi at home and that I am having some problems with my cell phone service where it says I have a full signal but it still takes 20 minutes to send a text or connect to facebook. Some other problems are that I no longer have a timer, I lost any sticky notes I made, and there are several other minor inconveniences, but I can live with most of those. So far these changes in the appearance are not worth the many problems that have developed as a result of the update

  • Laura Byrd

WHERE’S THE TIMER? It’s one of my top 5 most used functions and it seems to have disappeared.

Browsing these have given me a larger outlook on the matter. I hope there is much to come. Many thanks dear writer.

anytime moto and verizon does an update it screws up phones….no update for me.
    great phone leave it alone

  • Samuel Waldman

I GotThe Update. NOw I Have No Speed Dial, And Typing awful. ItCapitalizes EveryWord And Swipe Will Not Auto Space.Auto correct only replaces one letter of the word with th full corrected word

  • Shawn

This update it terrible and will wipe your information without warning! No where on the update screen do they tell you that anything is being removed, only added. Then apparently they bury those unfortunate details in the fine print, only visable if you click “View release notes.” Among other things, I lost a sticky note containing important information I just added yesterday! Really Motorola? No warning, and no way to recover this lost information? If that’s the case, then this is the last Motorola phone I’ll ever make the mistake of purchasing. Terrible customer service!

  • jerry henderson

Your resent software up date for RAZR Max on Verizon really suck, taken away motoprinter is a awful mistake among other things now the RAZR Max sucks and I guess it’s time to move on to something better )):

  • D L B

I just want my speed dial back. That is all.

  • MICHAEL LEAGUE

I want to un-update. I want the ability to set up groups from my phone contacts list and send group texts. Sorry, the nerds at Motorola don’t think that way. They think you want more intrusive Google junk. Don’t do what I did and blindly accept this update. Read the posts first before letting it in. I called Motorola about this, and their solution was for me to find a third-party app for group texting. Okay, go look at what people write about the various texting apps, and you’ll see that they are all full up bugs. I have one rated 4.5 stars, but it doesn’t work as well as what I formerly had. Thanks Motorola developers. I really want a phone that does less.

  • Lawrence Feeley

I lost my damn notes! I had all the measurements for some construction I was doing there. I also lost my alarm app. Oh that would be ok, I could just go get a replacement, but the old alarm keeps ringing every morning at 5AM. I just cant access the app to change or stop that alarm. All I can do is snooze or stop it after it rings!
    Come on Android!
I see ZERO improvements, and several problems. As expected.
How can you act like voice search is a new feature? I always had that. Go to google and hit the speaker button and speak your search. It was ALWAYS there.
    Pisses me off.

  • Micah Gill

The new update won’t let me do group text messaging and now I have to use an app from the market?! More like downgrade :(
I go from Home -> People -> Group -> Edit -> and all there is for options Discard!
When I click text in “Enter recipient filed” the groups don’t come up either.
    Please fix
    Thanks

  • Jennifer

I upgraded my Razr Maxx last week. At first seemed fine. I like the new look my phone has, but there are several problems – NO MORE GROUP TEXTING! WE USE THIS FOR BUSINESS! (Come on, you are actually making iPhone look good…) Also many people can no longer can connect to wifi at home & public places (doesn’t connect to older routers). ISPs are NOT going to give new ones for free – people/businesses would have to BUY NEW ONES for this software to work (I sure as h*#! would NOT buy a Motorola brand router now just as boycott!) Have noticed even when on 4G full signal it’s slower now to connect to facebook & at times gives error messages & simply won’t connect to FB. That didn’t happen before. We no longer have a timer, I lost the sticky notes I made (mine weren’t critical like some people’s) & if you read down, apparently the techs say “they are gone.” WHAT?!! So far these changes in the appearance are not worth the many problems that have developed as a result of the update. They forgot to tell us what they were REMOVING FROM US. If they don’t revert back to some of these basics, next smart phone NOT MOTOROLA.

  • Lauren

With all the complaints about this update, it looks like I’m going to keep hitting “Install Later”. I’m happy with ICS. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

    • waseem ud din

Just go for it….but bakup ur data first….it is good.

  • waseem ud din

I am using one unlocked Droid Razr Maxx in Kashmir,India. This phone is unheard / unseen here since Motorola pulled out of the Indian market.I had apprehensions in purchasing it…..but I was proved wrong…!!!…..This phone is wonderful…I give it 9.5 out of 10.

People round the world seem to have problems with updating to android 4.1.2….Motorola will not update droid razr maxx in India to Jelly Bean….but I got my phone updated yesterday quite easily…there was a notification icon flashing for few hours when i was still in 4.0 ICS version…it said ‘updates are available’….i clicked ‘OK’….for hours together the ‘downloading updates’ drop-down bar was alive….I have internet on my phone , but it is 2G i.e GPRS…quite slow…..finally after the update reached 100 %….the phone asked ‘install updates..?’….i let it go ahead….’power off’ for 10 minutes with the android robot only on screen and then automatic reboot……WOW….Jelly bean is here on my droid razr maxx….Yes…!!!!….the Android version in ‘About phone’ says it is 4.1.2….and clicking ‘System updates’ after few seconds says ‘your phone is up to date with latest software available’…Jelly bean is much quicker and the interface is decent.

Now regards the phone itself….what is wrong with it…? Nothing in my opinion….iPhone is just an obsession…Samsung is economical…But this phone is class and specs blended..

Battery backup is mind blowing….Days (not hours)…..forget your charger….No other phone on the planet has the power of 3300mAh Lithium ion battery in it….It gives me more backup than that most selling phone in the world i.e. Nokia 1100….and I am a HEAVY user…calls…internet…camera…videos and fiddling…AND Jelly bean has not changed that at all….I think it gives more backup than before….

The hardware is class Motorola….previously I owned one Razr v3i….I still have it since 2006….Used to miss Motorola in between as i wandered with Nokia e series and some Samsung and HTC stuff….But my wait is over …i have the right machine in my hand….Kevlar and gorilla glass….

No phone is perfect…but with Drod Razr Maxx…Motorola has proved it’s worth. It needs good marketing in Asia.I am sure it will win….

Those who want to go for this phone…don’t waste time…go for it…trust me..it is value for money..will upgrade only to the next Motorola now…

    THANKS MOTOROLA…!

  • Keith

My RAZR MAXX was upgraded to the Jelly Been OS and now its battery seems to drain more quickly. Previously I only charged it every two days, but now it runs down before the end of the second day. Is anyone else experiencing this? Google Now has handy features, but is there a way to increase battery life under the Jelly Bean OS?

  • http://www.facebook.com/mark.bottinick Mark Bottinick

I was wondering what people thought of the new upgrade, but didn’t know about this site. I searched “Android software update sucks” and sure enough, I found like minded people. The update made my phone sluggish, removed apps, speed dials, and who knows what else. I mentioned to a Motorola tech that I couldn’t find my timer anymore and he said it was removed because it’s available on the PlayStore. They removed an app I already had because I could get it somewhere else? WTF?

  • Lauren

I wish there was a way to permanently ignore the update notification. I have to hit “Install Later” every 12 hours. I’m afraid I’ll accidentally install this dreaded update. On the chance that it may eventually be force installed, I have backed up everything with the My BackUp Pro app and have scheduled routine backups. But I will hold out after reading nothing positive about this “update”.

  • Tess

I blindly accepted the update… my phone is completely not working. It seems for me to use it on PagePlus (as I did before the update) the phone must be programmed AGAIN at my expense.

  • Matheus Paiva

Galera … vale a pena ? to com medo da duraçao de bateria mudar … tenho um razr maxx , a mudança é muito radical ?? ha algum maleficio ??

    • Matheus Paiva

Responde ai por favor galera … please … com urgência

  • Luke

Got the update, now I have no Moto Music Player. This was my most used part of my phone. Why would you remove a perfectly useable function????

I can not access Play Store now either. It keeps telling me I am not signed in to Google, although my gmail account is syncing fine. WTF.

If this doesn’t get fixed I will never buy another Motorola product again

I want to buy this mobile since 1.5 years, but the problem is this means droid razr maxx hd is not compatible to GSM card in India. So tell me how i use this mobile if i buy this mobile in india?

  • Jay-R

My battery now dies twice as fast and it already was weak to begin with, and it takes three times as long to charge. Get this, when I went to bed, the battery said it was at 80% and the green blinking light was enough to kill it by the time I woke up 7 hours later. My camera no longer works, my gallery is no longer accessible, the ringer doesn’t work, and I can’t change ring tones, and it freezes randomly, which causes me to have to reset and restart phone. Not happy.

  • James K. Hamrick

Motorola may be happy to announce thre release, but this is one unhappy customer! Why do software developers seem so compelled to “fix something that ain’t broke” ? I am VERY unhappy with this update!!! I was jolted out of bed this morning with my alarm going off full blast, only to discover that update apparently wiped out the increasing volume option for the alarm (which I always used). I also see that the mute option for the phone ringer is gone as well (vibrate is the only other option). What’s up with that? If I’d known what I was getting, I NEVER would have accepted it. Please fix this immediately or I’ll be shopping for an iPhone! Thank you!

  • nated

I loved my phone raved about how good it was for the last year and a half. This update makes me want to never buy a another Motorola out of spite. Videos don’t work no group text no timer and every page on the net takes 3-4 times longer to load. This is a complete lack of respect for your customers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ShannoStein Shannon Voigt

Guess I’m the only one here who rather enjoys Jelly Bean. No issues with it.. In fact it’s made my phone worlds better. Easier to group apps, groupmessages work great, especially for pictures.. Phone runs faster, doesn’t crash.. Happy.
