DROID 4 by Motorola receives Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean

March 21, 2013 : BY Motorola

We’re happy to announce today that the Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade is rolling out to DROID 4 by Motorola owners in phases. This upgrade offers many features to help organize and make your life easier, including expanded notifications, Voice Search and Google Now. Here are some of the features included in the upgrade:

  • Expanded Notifications – So much to do and keep track of, so little time in the day. Now you can get reminders about important meetings from your calendar, like that big presentation you’re running late for. Email participants right from the notifications tab, so the there will never be a ball dropped with the client. These and many other notifications help organize your life, all right on your mobile..

  • Voice Search – Ask a question and get back the answer you’re looking for, ranging from “What is the weather today?, to “Where is the closest Thai restaurant?” or even “How far away is the moon?”  You’ll either get a spoken response back or search results that answer your query.

  • Google Now – With Google Now you get notifications generated automatically even before you ask as it learns what you search for the most. On a travel day, you can get the weather at both the departure and destination cities, traffic conditions to the airport to let you know if you should take public transit, which is also an available card, and when you arrive at the airport, your United Airlines boarding pass is there for you, ready to be scanned so you don’t have to dig through everything to find the paper version. What is normally a stressful event, is traveling made easy with Google Now cards guiding you every step of the way.

Good job Motorola! Please continue to make phones with physical keyboards for those of us that want them.

My droid 4 upgraded to Jelly Bean yesterday and now…it won’t pick up myWiFi!!
I certainly hope that this is going to be corrected. I’m NOT happy.

I got the new Jelly Bean update on my phone. I like the new features, but my shift key isn’t working. It’s an off and on problem. I have contacted Motorola and they said I should clear my cache. I did this and afterward my keyboard seemed saved. 10 minutes later the shift key stops working. I love this keyboard and it’s the reason I bought this phone. I am very frustrated. Can anyone help me?

you have to hold the shift key while also pressing the key which you want to alter

you should not have to hold down the shift key. upgrades are not supposed to give less functionality.

I’m with you on the keyboard issue. Plus now my blue tooth doesn’t work. What a shitty update. I’d rather stay with ice cream.

my droid4 is now a 3G phone instead of a 4G after this “upgrade”. My shift key does not always work either. I conatacted Verizon, but they have not answered me yet. So, how is this an upgrade?

I’ve been a loyal Droid user since the “OG” Droid all the way to #4 but unfortunately, that must come to an end. I feel let down by the series as it has increasingly become less user friendly. It has become “quirky” to say the least. Even as I type this out, I’m forced to retype everything twice over (a usual occurence). If there is a need to erase something which is normal due to the wacky behavior, text will automatically reappear, forcing me to re-erase. And the cursor hops around; why? It’s become a real hassle.

Sorry but I’m dropping the Droid and Motorola altogether and getting an iPhone…

Oh, and the latest OTA is terrible.

i am very disappointed with the droid4. it doesn’t do what the droid2 did. i cant forward emails or text messages to groups even though i have my contact list divided into groups. my droid2 did this no problem. so now i find out android phones don’t do this anymore unless i download an app. i should’t have to download an app to do this. i was supposed to be upgrading to a droid4 but found out i downgraded instead.i am so very dissapointed with this motorola phone. this will be my last motorola.

i too am having problems with my shift key since my phone “upgraded”. i think the new upgrade is JUNK. i’m beginning to regret i “upgraded to this phone. i don’t want an iphone but may have to get one to be able to do what i need to do. so dissapointed.

Will tablets get Jelly Bean? Millions of Moto customers would like to get JB ROM to update their devices, which have enough hardware to run Android 4.1 and 4.2..
    (XOOM/XOOM2/XYBOARD)

Could you give us a date Motorola?

    Thank you!

Also have been a faithfull and major supporter of Droid since the beginning…this upgrade has been upsetting to say the least. My favorite apps have been replaced with ones that don’t work. My phone behaves as if it has a resident alien inside that randomly does what it wants…and hope you are never in a hurry to dial a contact or anyone else for that matter……if its important find a landline to use! I have called my service provider twice already and motorola is next…this is sad! What was the best phone ever is now the worst!!!

Every week there is something else wrong with this phone. Now my caps lock does not work. Where will it end. Droid 4 with its Helly Bean upgrade should be taken of the market. This will definitely be my last Motorola. Samsung here I come.
