When we head out with our DROID RAZR MAXX HD by Motorola, we are taking not only our phone with us, but a sophisticated computer that organizes our lives and may have our schedules, email, documents, photos, videos, passwords and other important information. Therefore, it is essential that we do everything we can ahead of time to make sure that if the phone is lost or stolen, others can’t access and corrupt our personal data.

There are some great apps in the Google Play store that can help you keep tabs on and locate our phone if we lose track of it. One of them is SeekDroid Anti-Theft & Security which allows you to track, locate, and wipe clean your device remotely. Another is Find My Phone, which has some of the same features and also allows you to monitor the phones of  your entire family. You can check out this article on DROID LIFE to read more about recovering your lost device.

Before you worry about losing it though, we’ve included some helpful tips below to make sure you’re protected right out of the gate, so you can feel more at ease if you do misplace it.

How do I protect my phone from unauthorized use?
You can make the touchscreen lock when it goes to sleep. Touch  > Settings > Security & Screen lock > Screen lock, then select the lock type:

  • None: Turn off the screen lock.
  • Slide: Flick  to the right to unlock.
  • Face Unlock: Look at your smartphone to unlock it.
  • Pattern: Draw a pattern to unlock.
  • PIN: Enter digits to unlock.
  • Password: Enter letters, digits, or symbols to unlock.

Note: You can make emergency calls on a locked smartphone. A locked smartphone still rings, but you need to unlock it to answer.

Face unlock
Use face recognition to unlock your smartphone.
Note: This feature is less secure than a pattern, PIN, or password.
To get started, Touch  > Settings > Security & Screen lock > Screen lock > Face Unlock > Set it up.
Follow the prompts and look at the front camera lens. When face capture is complete, choose a pattern or PIN (for backup and to change the lock setting).
To unlock the smartphone, flick  to the right and look at the front camera lens.

Pattern

To set the lock pattern, Touch  > Settings > Security & Screen lock > Screen lock > Pattern.
Follow the instructions to draw your lock pattern.
When prompted, draw the pattern to unlock the smartphone.

PIN
To set a PIN, Touch  > Settings > Security & Screen lock  > Screen lock > PIN.
Enter a numeric PIN, then confirm it.
When prompted, enter the PIN to unlock the smartphone.

Password
To set the password, Touch  > Settings > Security & Screen lock  > Screen lock > Password.
Enter a password (up to eight characters), then confirm it.
When prompted, enter the password to unlock the smartphone.

Personalize your lock screen
To change your timeout, touch Touch  > Settings > Display > Sleep. If you don’t touch the screen or press any keys for the amount of time you select, the screen locks automatically.

Lock & unlock
To lock your smartphone screen, do any one of these:

  • Press the Power key.
  • Let the screen time out (don’t press anything).
  • Switch off the power.

To unlock your smartphone screen, press the Power key to wake the touchscreen display, then perform the unlock procedure required by the lock screen (slide, face unlock, pattern, PIN, or password).

Can’t unlock your smartphone?
Face unlock: If your smartphone doesn’t recognize your face, you’ll be prompted to enter your backup pattern or PIN code to unlock it.
Pattern: If you make five unsuccessful attempts to enter your lock pattern, you can touch Forgot pattern and enter the Gmail™ user name and password you set up as your main Google™ account when you registered your device. You will then be able to create a new pattern and unlock your device.
PIN or password: If you forget your PIN or password, you can enter the Google™Gmail™ user name and password you set up when you registered your device. You will then be able to create a new PIN or password and unlock your device.
If you don’t have a Google™ account on your smartphone, contact Verizon Wireless to have your device factory reset.

Warning: A factory reset will delete all data on your smartphone.

Software & Apps

There are a lot of ways to share data with your circles. You can email them, share on Google Drive, use a flash drive, etc. But with many of the latest Android phones coming with NFC capabilities, you can now easily share contacts, web pages, directions, apps and more with a simple touch and tap. Near field communication (NFC) technology makes it all possible. Just touch your DROID RAZR MAXX HD to another NFC-enabled Android device, then tap the screen to beam the content from your phone to another. With a future upgrade, you’ll be able to use NFC to make purchases at participating store registers.

Check out this video to see more on NFC sharing.

24 Hour Records and the DROID RAZR HD by Motorola

December 31, 2012 : BY Motorola

No matter what we do, our days are 24 hours, and hopefully we are making the most of every minute, even when we’re sleeping. The DROID RAZR HD by Motorola, with its’ 24 hours of mixed use battery life, is there for us to make sure we do. Whether the phone is keeping our days on track by shutting off during meetings at work with Smartactions, showing us the latest weather, traffic and transit news on our Google Now screen, or keeping out unwanted calls and texts while we’re sleeping, this phone has you covered all day and night.

But what other 24 hour events might be helped by the DROID RAZR HD ? We checked out some of the 24 hour world records, and thought that they could benefit from this phone as well, especially with its rugged construction of Dupont Kevlar®, Corning® Gorilla Glass® and water-repellent nanocoating.

Most concerts in 24 hours: The Flaming Lips played in 8 cities: Memphis, Tennessee, Clarkesdale, Mississippi, Oxford, MS, Jackson, MS, Hattiesburg, MS, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and New Orleans, LA. August 27-28 2012

Before and after Clark Griswold lit up his 250 strands of 25,000 lights in 1980s movie history (Google it), the tradition of decking out the family abode with a blaze of glory has been going strong. We thought we’d take a peek around town and see what some of today’s electrical artists are up to and share them with you. With the DROID RAZR HD and its advanced camera features in hand, we snapped the following pics to showcase our favorite Christmas scenes and maybe inspire you to get creative next year.

Features, Products

Mobile phones have always come with user manuals, FAQs, tutorials and other self-serve help options, trying to answer the question: how the heck do I use this new device. Being the proud and sentient beings that we are, these are oten options we tend to ignore, and instead choose to learn by trial and error. It’s just a phone, of course I can figure it out on my own. But this isn’t your father’s phone, and with the power and features of a sophisticated computer from several years ago, there’s a lot you might be missing by leaving it all to your intuition. One of the reasons people have resisted these helpful tools in the past is the burdensome way that they were written, difficult to find, or the need to go back and forth between your phone and the manual, losing track of which page has which feature, etc.,etc.

Not to worry. With the DROID RAZR M by Motorola, help is just a button away. With everything from how-to videos, easy to navigate FAQs, and support contact info at your fingertips, you won’t be wasting time, you’ll be answering questions quickly and easily. Organized into easy-scroll pages, you’ll find everything you need to understand the settings on your phone. How to do messaging and calendar setup, to find your apps and get new ones easily, to show you how to use new features that come with software updates, and how to reset your phone and contact support. We’re not just talking about passive help here. When you click on many of the items in the support menu, your DROID RAZR M will actually take you on a test run of your new topic. If you want to learn how to ignore an incoming phone call, the Help app will send a fake call to your phone and give you onscreen directions on how to swipe left to end it. If you don’t get it right the first time, the app will coach you until you get it right, and then flash a ‘tutorial completed’ message.

If you need help directly from us, there’s one click access to the Motorola Support Forums, our support phone numbers and email address. You’ll never feel stranded on the tech-support highway again. You probably won’t need it, but rest easy knowing we’ve got your back if you do.

Check out more screenshots of the Help app on the Motorola Google+ page here.

Software & Apps

Translation apps were a great accomplishment when they came out, and can still be useful on occasion. Unfortunately, by the time you open the app, type in the words you want to translate, and then wait to read back the translated text to the recipient, the moment is lost.

Fortunately the fumbling and typing is no longer necessary with Google’s voice translate features that are part of the Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Now with your DROID RAZR M BY MOTOROLA and other Motorola devices that will soon be upgraded to Jelly Bean, you can speak your sentences into your smartphone and get a translation read out loud right away. You might still get some sideways looks for not speaking the local language when you travel, but at least they should respect your technological acumen for getting what you want to say out and translated in seconds.
