We’re happy to announce today that the Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade is rolling out to MOTOROLA ELECTRIFY™ 2 owners in phases. This upgrade offers many features to help organize and make your life easier, including expanded notifications, Voice Search and Google Now. Here are some of the features included in the upgrade:

ELECTRIFY_2 (1)

  • Expanded Notifications – So much to do and keep track of, so little time in the day. Now you can get reminders about meetings or appointments from your calendar, and you can either tap once to snooze them or even email participants to say you’re running late. Your Google Play Music controls show up in the notifications menu so you can pause, fast forward or go back to the beginning of your new favorite song. These and many other notifications help organize your mobile life all in one place.
  • Voice Search – Ask a question and get back the answer you’re looking for, ranging from “What is the weather today?, to “Where is the closest dry cleaner?” or even “When is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday?”. You’ll either get a spoken response back or search results that answer your query.
  • Google Now – We could all benefit from a personal assistant every now and then to keep track of our busy lives. With Google Now you get notifications generated automatically and in real-time even before you ask as it learns what you search for the most. Now your ELECTRIFY™ 2 can deliver sports scores, stock updates, weather reports, traffic updates, airline boarding passes, movie showtimes, and so much more, so you have all the information you want even before you’ve had your morning coffee.

With the Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade on your eligible Motorola devices, you get a whole lot of new features, some which you might not even know about.

We all love to search. How do I make crab cakes? Where is the closest theater showing that new blockbuster movie? What kind of saw should I use for my upcoming project? The problem is, our lives are so hectic, we often start things with a search, but forget to follow through because we closed the tab or it just got lost in the shuffle. Well with some of the cards available on Google Now with Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean, your Google searches will pop up within a day or so to jog that memory back into place.

Besides the very helpful appointment, flight, public transit and many other info cards on your Google Now page, you can also enable the Movies, Research and Real Estate cards. After learning what you’re looking for based on your searches, the Google Now cards will act like your own personal assistant by reminding you about the things you’re already interested in. The cards will also offer additional recommendations that are related to your searches, like other recipes, because you can’t eat crab cakes every day.

And now your recently snapped photos will be ready for instant share to your connected  Google+ account in the expanded notifications menu. If you don’t want to share, simply swipe them away and they will be removed from notifications.

These are just a few of the enhancements available. Please visit the Jelly Bean tab on our new Android™ landing page.

There is a lot of clutter and useless information in our daily lives that we try to avoid to stay on track. Luckily, with Google Now available on Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean on your DROID RAZR MAXX HD by Motorola, you can get your to-do lists done with voice notes sent to your gmail inbox. Simply touch the microphone icon and say for example “note: get sour cream, wine and dessert” and you will have an email with your list.

Using your free Gmail account, you can also keep track of everything from flight arrivals and departures to event reminders with directions, package deliveries and restaurant reservations. If you feel like being an explorer in your home town or while away, Google Now can pull up spots nearby that are great photo opportunities, restaurants and pubs, events and lots of fun activities, usually within walking distance or a short cab ride away.

With public alerts, you can be aware of advisories for your location from the National Weather Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and similar services. And although you’re out and about, you’ll have your latest news like stock quotes, sports scores and breaking stories, which can all be brought to you screen when you open Google Now. With the Activity summary card, you can see a rough approximation of how far you walked or cycled during the past month.

These and many more features let you work hard and play hard, without adding more clutter in your life. If you’re not familiar with how it works, check out this Google Now video and the screenshots below.

Ready, set, cards! If your day isn’t starting out with Google Now cards, you may be heading out unprepared and about to be a victim of traffic jams, fast approaching storms, and worst of all, a route into work that has you bumper to bumper instead of humming along. Suddenly that express bus isn’t looking so swift after all. You could spend your precious morning minutes going online to check on the weather, then the traffic, then seeing what alternate options you might find on your local transit website. Or you could just wake up, open Google Now on your DROID RAZR HD by Motorola, and everything is brought right to your homescreen.

With the Weather card showing rain, causing the traffic jam as reflected on your Traffic card, that bus is out, and it’s off to the train. The Transit card pops up with the schedule for nearby buses and trains. You see the next train is in 6 minutes, perfect timing. And then if your train is delayed by mechanical difficulties on the tracks ahead and just sitting there at the station, once again, the transit card on Google Now will show you all the alternate buses and trains nearby. No more standing by like all the lemmings waiting for further instructions. You can easily set up the cards you want to see, when you want to see them. Google Now let’s you be the maestro of your morning commute.

Please visit the Motorola Google+ page here to see more examples of the Google Now Transit Cards in action.

Google Now uses contextual data from your phone and other Google services—like the time, your location, and much more—to keep you one step ahead of your day.

So, now you’ll know about the thunderstorm warning as you’re getting dressed in the morning (Read: pack your umbrella) and the accident that’s backing up the freeway (Hint: consider the train) as well as the score from last night’s game (ouch, sorry you missed it).

Having the DROID RAZR M with Google Now will make you feel like you have your own personal assistant.

UPDATE: Check out our new upgrade page featuring the latest news on Android software upgrades around the world at moto.ly/upgrade

At the new Motorola, we’re focused on making fewer, bigger bets that will redefine the mobile experience for our users.  And one of our top priorities is delivering great software upgrades. To that end, we’d like to share with you our latest developments:

DROID RAZR M BY MOTOROLA gets Android 4.1™ Jelly Bean

We’re excited to announce that DROID RAZR M is getting upgraded to Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean. Starting today, the upgrade will be rolled out to users in phases. Jelly Bean includes a number of fantastic new and improved features, including Google Now, Voice Search, and improved notifications. Check out Motorola.com/jellybean to learn more.

Looking ahead: software upgrades will be available for preview

We know it’s important for many of you to get the latest Android software upgrades onto your phones as quickly as possible. With that in mind, we’re also introducing Test Drive, a new program that will allow consumers to take our major software upgrades for a trial run and provide valuable feedback before we launch the upgrade publicly.  Starting with Android 4.2, the next iteration of Jelly Bean, we will release a preview of our software to a few hundred consumers that sign up for Test Drive.  More details on how to sign-up and participate will be announced on the blog soon.

Going forward, we are going to focus our efforts so that we can deliver consistently high quality experiences to our users.  Unfortunately that means not all phones will be getting upgrades.  If you own a device that’s not getting upgraded, we’ve created the Motorola trade up program.  The trade up program gives you $100 back on a new Motorola smartphone when you trade-in your old one–so you don’t have to miss out on Jelly Bean.  For qualifying devices and more details, check out Motorola.com/tradeup.

Clearly, there’s a lot going on at Motorola, and we have no intention of slowing down any time soon. DROID RAZR M is only the first of many devices to get Jelly Bean (the full schedule is here).   We’re a new company with a new approach, and a big part of how we’ll do business going forward is to keep our customers in the loop.  You can always reach out to us on Google+ as well as our other social media channels with questions or feedback.
