Software & Apps

Don’t you hate it when the mobile version of your favorite site or app leaves you feeling frustrated and wondering why they even bothered. With all the enhancements on the Google+ for Android app, the mobile experience is now something to enjoy when doing the things you love to do.

One of the new improvements is all about images. When using Google’s instant upload feature, you can now store up to 5 GB of full-sized photos for free. No more paying monthly fees from some of those other services to store your precious snapshots. The 5 GB is in addition to the already included unlimited uploads for 2048-pixel photos. Plus, GIF images are also now supported in your mobile news feed, making for a richer media experience in which to show your flair.

If you’ve always wanted to try a Hangout on your DROID RAZR MAXX HD or other compatible Motorola phone, now the Google+ app lets you have a smoother experience. Supporting bandwith connections as low as 150kb, and video chat with up to 9 friends, using mobile Hangouts is the way to keep your posse together.

Google+ Events are now more interactive with the ability to send messages to specific guests and to know who’s opened your invitations, so you know if your ‘dear old friend’ is fibbing when they say they never got your invite. You can also copy and paste the event url into an email or chat box, and have a running total of the invite list by letting invitees check their status.

Photos can be shared automatically to an Event with Party Mode. And if you want to see what’s going on in the world or right around you, you can see trending topics and nearby public conversations.

With these and other improvements, the Google+ mobile experience will leave you wondering why you ever needed a desktop computer in the first place. Check out the free app in the Google Play Store where you can see screenshots, a video and more.

  • Do you always wear that outfit or just at Christmas?
  • What do you look like without a beard?
  • What kind of games do reindeer play anyway?
  • Do you have a car or do you drive your sleigh everywhere?

Even those who don’t win can tune in on December 15th and watch Santa tackle the tough questions live. So go ahead and give Kringle A Jingle!

Translation apps were a great accomplishment when they came out, and can still be useful on occasion. Unfortunately, by the time you open the app, type in the words you want to translate, and then wait to read back the translated text to the recipient, the moment is lost.

Fortunately the fumbling and typing is no longer necessary with Google’s voice translate features that are part of the Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Now with your DROID RAZR M BY MOTOROLA and other Motorola devices that will soon be upgraded to Jelly Bean, you can speak your sentences into your smartphone and get a translation read out loud right away. You might still get some sideways looks for not speaking the local language when you travel, but at least they should respect your technological acumen for getting what you want to say out and translated in seconds.

How To

From weddings to weekend getaways, Motorola smartphones allow you to shoot and share picture-perfect moments. And with Google+, you can share the good times as they happen.

With Google+’s Instant Upload feature, your phone (powered by Android 2.2 or higher) can automatically add photos or videos to an album on your Google+ account. Images are first uploaded to private album that only you can see. You can share them with specific friends or Google+ Circles. You’re in charge of who sees what.

Get started
First, go to the Google Play™ store and install Google+ on your phone. Once installed, sign into your G+ account, then go to Settings. Under “Photos and Videos,” select “On” for Instant Upload. Here, you can set when you want to upload: while charging, using WiFi or whenever (so uploads happen immediately).

Once you’re set up, you’re to share. From G+ on your phone, tablet or computer, choose “Photos.” Select what you want to share, add a note and then choose who sees what. Google+ Circles lets you selectively share last night’s craziness with close friends and avoid embarrassment with the family. Google+ works with non-Motorola Android devices, too – even Apple’s iOS.
