Questions about our open enrollment programs
What are Six Sigma Black Belts and Green Belts? What can individuals with these certifications accomplish?
Six Sigma Black Belts are experts in the Six Sigma methodology. They learn and demonstrate proficiency in the DMAIC methodology and a variety of statistical process control (SPC) techniques within that methodology. Green Belts learn a subset of the Black Belt program with emphasis on the DMAIC methodology and intermediate-level quality tools. Black Belts and Green Belts implement the Six Sigma methodology on high impact improvement opportunities in their organizations to drive prioritized business results.

What is a Master Black Belt?
The criteria for attaining Master Black Belt status can vary by organization but generally, these individuals have a few years of experience as a Black Belt, have executed several projects with documented and sustainable results, and have mentored other Black Belt candidates. They typically receive additional training in advanced statistical tools, business skills, and team/leadership skills. Master Black Belts mentor and teach others in their organization, and lead large-scale projects.

If I successfully complete your Six Sigma training, do I automatically become certified as a Black Belt or Green Belt?
As with many professional certifications, Black Belt and Green Belt certifications require:
1) completing the training,
2) passing a test, and
3) demonstrating project results.
Motorola University offers a certification option in addition to our Black Belt training program. See the Black Belt program requirements and/or the Green Belt program requirements for more details.

Why does Black Belt/Green Belt certification cost extra?
Evaluator reviews of the project write-ups require the time of an expert that represents an additional cost beyond the training and test. We price this option separately because we have many participants who attend our program as part of their own professional development and do not necessarily have real-time projects. This prevents them from completing formal certification. Therefore, pricing the certification option separately makes it available for those who can actually complete it.

If I have completed Black Belt/Green Belt training someplace else, can I sign up to complete Motorola University certification?
At this time, we are offering our certification option only to those individuals who complete our Black Belt/Green Belt training program. We are evaluating whether we will extend this service to individuals trained by other vendors.

Are there any prerequisites for Six Sigma training?
There are no formal pre-requisites for our training. We do ask that Black Belts become familiar with the MINITAB software prior to attending class and Green Belts should be familiar with Excel. In addition, for participants who are not familiar with basic statistics (or may be in need of a refresher), we recommend reading an introductory book, such as The Cartoon Guide to Statistics, prior to attending Black Belt or Green Belt training.

Do you use any software in your training programs?
Our Black Belt program uses the MINITAB statistical software package. Our Green Belt program is based on Microsoft Excel and participants are provided with StatPlus and Excel Stat add-ins for increased functionality. (However, we do offer a MINITAB version of our Green Belt program for onsite delivery to a client organization.)
