Lending a Helping Hand to the Needy 

Motorola is committed to promoting sustainable volunteerism as a way of life. This means a concerted effort to organize initiatives and activities all year round to make a positive difference in the community. The aim is to foster closer ties, encourage active volunteerism and to develop a long-term commitment towards helping the less fortunate.   

With various teams spearheading key programs, Motorolans are encouraged to be actively involved in the following key initiatives with respect to charity and welfare organizations:

• Enhancing social quality of life
• Gainful employment
• Skills development and certification programs
• Subsidizing daily family expenses for the needy

The following are just a few examples of how Motorola is supporting and partnering with the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS).

Enhancing social quality of life

Motorola wants to enhance the quality of life for members of MINDS and their families by providing opportunities to experience childhood joys as simple as bus-rides, outings and joint birthday bashes.  Activities such as lantern-making competitions during the Mooncake Festival and park outings to spread the environmental message enabled Motorolans to spend time with friends from MINDS.

Gainful employment / Skills development & certification programs

To help individuals to be self-sufficient in society, Motorola employed five adults from MINDS at its factory where they can gain hands-on working experience at an external environment.

Motorola is also currently working with its suppliers and contractors to provide certified training for members of MINDS. These workshops and vocational training will help to enhance their skill sets and to enable better integration into the working environment and society.

Subsidizing daily family expenses for the needy

Motorola is also helping to subsidize the daily expenses, such as transportation and meals, of several individuals from MINDS. These subsidies have the common objective of assisting needy members from MINDS to meet their expenses while they concentrate on special education classes and activities to enable social integration into society.
