Motorola India Electronics Private Limited, with operations in Bangalore and Hyderabad is probably one of the very few commercial organizations to report SCAMPI Version 1.1 Class A Appraisal using CMMI continuous representation and to have demonstrated Level 5 process maturity status using 'equivalent staging'.
GSG India's appraisal was based on CMMI version 1.1 covering all the four model components, namely Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Integrated Product & Process Development and Supplier Sourcing.
- GSG India has established a leadership status for itself by demonstrating that the process areas of CMMI can be 'individually' improved upon, based on their own capability dimensions. Pursuing the rigorous calibration of process areas requires strong management and software engineering commitment. This maturity has existed since 1993, when GSG India demonstrated to the world that it was the first commercial SEI-CMM level 5 organization. By using the continuous representation as a reference framework, we have evaluated the business benefits from having project management and engineering threads of the CMMI at a high capability.
- The SCAMPI Class A Appraisal in May 2003 at GSG India was preceded by a Class B Appraisal and a Class C spot check, eleven and two months respectively, prior to Class A. This sequence is unprecedented in the industry and brings credibility to our appraisal process.
- By establishing a target profile using a Class B assessment, this is the first cited instance where the process improvement program was based on a validated input. And the fact that the achievement profile matches with the target profile is indicative of the strong technical, process and management competency in the organization.
