iSixSigma Magazine Magazine features "Motorola Celebrates 20 Years of Six Sigma"
"Motorola invented Six Sigma as a transformational quality and business improvement methodology, and over the last 20 years, this approach has been adopted by hundreds of companies around the world. Motorola has launched thousands of improvement projects during that time and that have produced over $18 billion in savings. A key realization in the 1980's was that a product quality issue usually resulted from the accumulation of defects in the manufacturing process. The 1990's was a time of rapid expansion, and Six Sigma was used to improve Supplier quality and to replicate successful processes around the world. The next transformation, Digital Six Sigma, occurred in early 2003. The core methodology was now directed at very high-leverage issues, and a variety of new digital tools were integrated into the system. Six Sigma at Motorola is now used to drive business improvement throughout the organization."
