Chicago Cares Pictures

On Saturday, June 11 over 200 Motorolans and their families and friends joined thousands of other volunteers in Chicago to paint, plant and clean at over 60 school and park district sites.

Motorola was an official sponsor of this year's Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, the city's largest volunteer event. Kicking off at Soldier Field, the Motorola team was easy to spot in their distinctive blue T-shirts and caps as they boarded buses for the project site.

Eileen Sweeney, director of the Motorola Foundation and event supervisor said, “The Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon is a great way for Motorola employees to work together for a terrific cause. And our hard work made such a difference to the school and community”.

Volunteers painted the hallways and classrooms of Mancel Talcott Elementary School, which serves 800 pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students on the near west side of Chicago. The newly painted walls make the school a brighter and more positive place to learn. On Monday morning one of the younger students remarked that the walls ‘really woke me up'.

“As a Chicago-based company, we're happy to give back to our hometown community,” says Eileen. "This event is the beginning. We're rolling out a new corporate-wide volunteer program for Motorolans to get involved in community service. Stay tuned for more news about the program and to find out how you can participate."
