2008 Global Day of Service

For the third year in a row, Motorola employees around the world took a half day off to volunteer in their communities on the Global Day of Service. Themed “Green & Global,” this year's event engaged 10,000 Motorola employees in 45 countries and emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Some of the “Green & Global” highlights include:

  • Working with a non-profit organization to plant a tree in honor of each employee that volunteered and an second tree for every employee that reused a Motorola T-shirt from a previous company event
  • Participating in an in-office project to protect forests and curb climate change
  • Sharing a Green Energy lesson plan created by Motorola employees with hundreds of students across the world, from Chicago to China

The Global Day of Service extends the company’s commitment to the environment. In addition to Motorola’s ongoing efforts to improve the environmental profile of its products, the company has reduced the carbon footprint of its operations by 25 percent over the last seven years and offers or participates in mobile device recycling programs in 69 countries.

The Global Day of Service is organized by Motorola volunteers with the Motorola Foundation, which has sustained the company’s rich heritage of giving since 1953.
