What is the average grant size?
The average grant size is US$44,000

What is the minimum request amount?
The minimum grant amount is $5,000.

What is the maximum request amount?
The maximum amount for national and multi-state programs is $75,000.For single state programs the maximum is $50,000.

When and how will I expect to find out if my grant is approved?
You will be notified via email (giving@motorola.com) of our decision in April.

When will the grants be announced?
Motorola will make a public announcement of the grantees in early May; a full list will be available at www.motorola.com/giving.

Do you accept applications for multi-year grants?
No, however many programs apply for an Innovation Generation grant several years in a row.

How many years am I eligible to receive an Innovation Generation grant?
Each program is eligible to receive a grant for 3 consecutive years; you may reapply again the subsequent year. Motorola Foundation reserves the right to review this policy on a case by case situation.

Why do you accept applications for programs from select states?
The Innovation Generation grant strategy is to support programming in communities where Motorola employees live and work.

Do I need an invitation code?
No, an invitation code is not required to fill-out this application.

Who do I contact if I have questions about my application?

Why do I need to have more than one contact listed?
More than one contact is necessary for us to be able to contact you in a timely manner. Often staff positions change, and we need to be able to contact your organization with important updates via email. Ideally include executive position, grant writer and administrative position. If your email account has a spam filter, add giving@motorola.com to your contact list.

What type of program am I applying for?
Examples of each program type are below:
- Classroom tools and Equipment – smart boards, digital cameras or computer software
- Competition – FIRST Robotics state tournament or math club tournament
- Curriculum Support – classes or training to develop curriculum to be used in a classroom
- Lecture Series – science conversations to be held across the country
- In-School Programming –science or math club that occurs during the school day
- Internship – student or teacher internships in a STEM field
- Out-of-School Programming – science or math club that occurs when school is not in session
- On-line program – a program conducted primarily on-line (for example: Science Buddies)
- Teacher training – classes or workshops for teachers
- Tutor/Mentor – programs that offer tutoring or professional mentoring to students in the STEM field
- Seminar or Conference – a short-term gathering of professionals in the STEM field
- Spring Break/Summer Camp – STEM camp offered when school is out of session for a long period
- University/Outreach with0-12 School – a program that works with Pre-K to 12th grade schools
- Other – does not match any of the above criteria

Can I apply for a grant to purchase Motorola equipment?
No, you are not able to use Motorola Foundation grant funds to purchase Motorola equipment.

Can I apply for a grant to purchase non-Motorola equipment?
Yes, you may apply for a grant to purchase non-Motorola equipment.

What is a network list?
A network list is the name of organizations that you work with to provide programming and other resources.

What is a network description?
A network description explains how you work with these organizations, for example sharing best practices, building collaborative and sharing resources.
Examples of a network: Girls Scouts running FIRST Robotics teams for their participants, After School Program bringing in volunteers from the local University and Boys and Girls Club having speakers from the local Science Museum.

How do I determine if my program is a new program?
New programming is considered to be a program that is less than two years old as of January 30, 2009.

When do I need to fill out a program evaluation?
You will be required to fill out an evaluation 12 months after you are notified that your organization received a grant.

What is expected for the evaluation process?
Must show a measurable, positive impact. For example, change in participant attitudes about careers in STEM, improvement against state or national standards, career choice/college acceptance and attendance records. Program surveys are acceptable tools of measurement. See the program evaluation below:

I am a school or university and we have a large operating budget, do I need to submit the entire budget?
If you are a school or a university you do not need to submit the entire organization’s operating budget. If available, submit the operating budget for your individual school, department within the university or a summary of revenue and expenses.

Is it acceptable to include administrative fees as part of the grant request?
No, we do not pay for administrative fees over and above program operating costs.

Why do you ask for audited financial statements?
Audited financial statements allow us to understand the financial health of your organization.
