Corporate responsibility in India means harnessing the power of our global enterprise to benefit people. It also means doing the right thing in all aspects of our business, including how we treat the environment, our employees, our customers, our partners and our communities. Accessibility  At Motorola, we recognize that customers have different needs and capabilities. We are committed to creating products that meet the needs of everyone possible — regardless of abilities. We provide a wide range of products for people with diverse communications needs — with hearing, speech, vision, dexterity, mobility or cognitive needs at varying levels.

Business Conduct   Motorola's Code of Business Conduct reaffirms what each Motorola employee stands for — do the right thing, every day, no excuses. With a strong culture of corporate ethics and citizenship, Motorola for decades has maintained these two key beliefs: 1) Uncompromising integrity; 2) Constant respect for people.

Environment, Health & Safety   At Motorola, we hold a deep and abiding respect for the environment. Equal is our longstanding and ongoing commitment to the health and safety of our employees, customers, suppliers, partners and community neighbors. We take a long-term view of continuous improvement and a responsible, short-term focus on our day-to-day activities. This area includes information about batteries; climate change; management systems; performance; policy; product stewardship and RoHS; recycling; and, remediation.

  • India's first "green" building certification: In 2008, Motorola's facility at Sriperumbudur near Chennai became the first manufacturing site in India to receive the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the Indian Green Buildings Council. Under the LEED rating system, Motorola was evaluated on a variety of parameters, including energy and water usage; material and resource selection; and indoor environmental quality.

Governance  Corporate governance is the way we manage our business responsibly to serve the long-term needs and interests of our shareholders. Inclusion and Diversity   Motorola not only embraces and values diverse individuals, opinions, cultures and abilities, but we also actively seek them. It is the unique perspectives and experiences of our employees that have enabled Motorola to pioneer so many innovative products and technologies. We are focused on cultivating an inclusive environment where everyone can learn from one another and leverage diversity as a competitive advantage. It starts with recruiting and retaining diverse talent, but also includes serving under-represented consumer markets and partnering with diverse suppliers.

Philanthropy  With a history of giving through grants and volunteerism, Motorola and the Motorola Foundation support the education, economic, environmental and social needs of communities around the world. In India, as part of Motorola's  Global Day of Service, employees across Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai worked with schools, non-profits, nature centers and other locales to increase environmental awareness. Other community initiatives supported by Motorola in India recently include:

  • 2008 Bihar floods relief: Motorola Foundation and its employees contribute to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund toward bringing relief to those affected by the Bihar floods, which left millions of people homeless and without access to food, fuel, electricity, water or medical aid.
  • 2008 Parikrma virtual classroom: With the help of Motorola Canopy™ wireless broadband technology, Motorola enables school children in remote areas to gain access to quality education. In Parikrma centers of learning for underprivileged children, Motorola connects teachers and students by providing real-time audio and video to a cluster of classrooms, creating a virtual and interactive learning platform.
  • 2007 Mumbai blasts:  Motorola employees across India contribute a day's salary to the Chief Ministers fund.
  • 2005 Kashmir earthquake: Motorola Foundation donates US$500,000 toward rescue and relief work and also donates portables and mobile phones to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jammu and Kashmir police and the Indian army to support their earthquake relief efforts.
  • 2004 Tsunami relief: Motorola Foundation contributes more than US$1 million through corporate and employee contributions and equipment worth US$800,000, including ultra high frequency wireless radios and GSM mobile phones to the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, as well as Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • 2001 Gujarat earthquake: Motorola donates two-way radios, trunking systems and mobile phones to the Gujarat government and US$70,000 toward rescue and relief work. 

Privacy   Privacy is a person's right to control what information about him or her is collected and to determine how that information is used. Motorola recognizes privacy as a concern for its consumers, customers and employees.

Responsible Driving   It all started with music in a gun-metal-gray box, bolted under the dash of a car. Today, Motorola is building a world where people are constantly connected. We recognize that by virtue of what we do and the products we provide comes a tremendous responsibility — to help drivers stay safe.

Supplier Programs   With the vast global footprint of our supply chain, Motorola has the opportunity to positively affect the people who help make our products and the places where they are made. Motorola incorporates a set of ethical and environmental standards into all new contracts. This area also includes our material disclosure process, where suppliers are required to disclose substances of concern as well as recycled material content.
