University Relations
 

Motorola has set up several educational cooperation  activities to support Indonesia schools and universities and the overall development of human resources in Indonesia.   Some of the key projects include:

 

1. CADRE 2000  and FINANCE 2000 Programs 

 

Motorola has used the global CADRE 2000  and FINANCE 2000 programs to select young Indonesian professionals and entered them into 18 month accelerated management training assignments outside of Indonesia. This program is designed  to accelerated  process of developing the Motorola culture and developing company relationships for these individuals before they return to their home country to undertake leadership roles in Motorola business units.

 

2. STT Telkom  (University level School created by TELKOM the national PTT)

 

Motorola donated $2.2M in equipment and services to set up a training center  to train technicians and engineers to operate and maintain both AMPS and GSM cellular systems. Initial installation was in 1994 and the center is still in operation conducting classes.

 

3. Institute of Technology at Bandung(ITB)

 

ITB is the top technology school in Indonesia.  In 1995, Motorola signed a MOU with the school to set up work stations for training students in microprocessors and  Digital Signal Processors (DSPs).

 

4.  Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Bandung

 

Motorola  established an MOU on October 5, 1998 with Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Bandung (STMB), a Graduate School of Management operated by Yayasan Pendidikan Telkom (Telkom Education Foundation). The purpose of this MOU is to undertake a cooperation program between Motorola and STMB in the field of Research and Development  primarily in the Telecommunication Industry in Asia Pacific.

 

Indonesia has proved to be a solid market opportunity for Motorola.  The local presence created by Motorola is providing training and technology transfer to the telecommunications infrastructure.  Indonesia has been going through a progressive de-regulation process and has agreed to WTO initiatives to further open Indonesian markets in the next several years.  Motorola would like to take an active part in this business development. 

 

5.  ITB National Microcontroller Design Contest

 

On April 10, 2000, PT. Motorola Indonesia collaborates with Electrical Engineering Students Association of Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), the Indonesia’s premier centre for technological studies by sponsoring the National Microcontroller Design Contest competition.

 

The form of this competition is to encourage technology students from Indonesian universities to design commercially viable systems applications using Motorola's Microcontroller. The competition is the first of its kind in Indonesia and aims at boosting the technology skills of Indonesian undergraduates to showcase the best of Indonesia’s creative and engineering talent.

 

The winning designs were reviewed and judged by a panel of industry experts where three winners were announced on April 2001.
