Reese Schroeder, Managing Director, Motorola Ventures US

Reese Schroeder is a Managing Director of Motorola Ventures, based in Schaumburg, Illinois. His role is to actively review, invest, and manage the global minority equity opportunities strategic to Motorola's core and emerging businesses. The mission of Motorola Ventures is to accelerate sustainable bottom line growth for Motorola through investments in new technologies, new businesses and new talent.

Reese has been with Motorola since 1989. Prior to joining Motorola Ventures, Reese was a Director in Motorola's Corporate Development and Strategic Transactions Group where he was responsible for a wide variety of merger, acquisition and divestiture activity. During his tenure with Motorola, Reese also held a variety of positions in Motorola's wireless infrastructure business including Senior Manager of the Contracts Department, Commercial Strategies Manager for International Marketing , Director of Operations for the Asia Pacific Region and Director of Global Alliance Development.

Prior to joining Motorola, Reese was Vice President of Sales and Administration for Bristol Container Corp., a midwest-based manufacturer of chemical transportation containers. He also engaged in the practice of law for a brief period of time.

In 1981, Reese graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois in with a B.A. majoring in Political Science. He also received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1984.

Loren Minkus, Director, Portfolio Management

Loren Minkus is Director, Portfolio Management for Motorola Inc. where he has worked for the past 30 years. In his current function, Loren has oversight management responsibility for minority equity investments throughout the corporation. Loren is the secretary for the Motorola Equity Investment Board which reviews and approves all minority equity investments (new and follow-on) and divestments across the company. Prior to his current role, Loren was a marketing, government relations and business development professional for 12 years in Motorola’s Network Management Group (NMG). NMG formed joint venture companies that acquired cellular operating licenses and ran cellular operating businesses outside of the U.S. Loren was the program manager for when Motorola considered spinning off NMG into a public company called Propel and was heavily involved in the SEC filings. The subsequent sale of the NMG ownership in the cellular operating companies brought in significant cash and non-operating profits to the Corporation in 2000 and 2001. Prior to NMG, Loren had positions in Corporate Audit, Corporate Treasury, Multinational Operations and had finance, marketing and strategy roles in the former Communications Sector. Loren received his BS in Accounting from Southern Illinois University and his MBA in international business from Roosevelt University.

 

 

Code Cubitt, Investment Manager 

Code Cubitt is an Investment Manager at Motorola Ventures, based in Sunnyvale, California. His role is to actively review, invest, and manage minority equity investments strategic to Motorola's core and emerging businesses. Code’s mission inside Motorola Ventures is to create sustainable technological and business advantage for Motorola by facilitating portfolio company interaction and business relationships with Motorola. 

Prior to joining the Motorola Ventures team, Code spent several years as both an institutional Venture Capitalist at Gabriel Venture Partners and as a strategic corporate investor at Ciena Communications. Code also has experience in mergers and acquisitions having led teams at both Ciena and Palm. In addition Code worked with a California based hedge fund and served as a buy side analyst managing a portfolio of public market investments in the wireless sector. Previously Code spent 7 years as a design engineer at IBM and at Ciena, specializing in RF hardware design.

Code earned an MBA degree, with a concentration in corporate strategy from the University of Maryland where he graduated with honors. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta- Canada. Code has served on the Boards of Directors of the Mid Atlantic Venture Association, Young Associates Venture Association, Next Gen Partners of Silicon Valley, and the Silicon Valley Venture Forum.

W. Rockwell Daehler, Jr., Investment Manager

Rocky Daehler is an Investment Manager of Motorola Ventures, based in Schaumburg, IL.  Rocky’s role includes identifying, executing and managing strategic investments in startup companies.  Target startup companies will accelerate Motorola’s access to and implementation of leading-edge technology in order to drive sustainable, profitable growth for the corporation.

Prior to Motorola Ventures, Rocky spent 5 years in various strategic and product marketing roles within Motorola.  Most recently, he led Motorola PCS’ product marketing efforts to a Top 5 CDMA wireless operator.  During assignments in the corporate and PCS strategy offices, he led a variety of merger, acquisition, and partnership efforts as well as strategy formulation exercises.  Prior to Motorola, Rocky worked at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and Booz, Allen & Hamilton.  There, Rocky participated in and led a number of strategy, business process re-engineering, engineering efficiency, and manufacturing productivity assignments with Fortune 500 companies.

In 1986, Rocky graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.  He also earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1993, graduating with honors.

 

 

 

Mel Gaceta, Investment Manager

Mel Gaceta is an Investment Manager of Motorola Ventures, based in Schaumburg, IL.  In this role, Mel identifies, executes, and manages strategic minority private equity investments on the behalf of Motorola.

Prior to his current role as Investment Manager, Mel spent 3 1/2 years as the Division Controller for Motorola Ventures where he was responsible for the internal financial management of the group and portfolio, which includes budgeting, valuation and pre/post deal execution financial oversight.  Prior to Motorola Ventures, Mel held diverse finance roles in Motorola Credit Corp., Cellular Infrastructure Group, Components Products Group, Personal Communications Sector and most recently in Network Management Group. There he was a Controller and finance team leader in various cellular license bids.

Mel holds a MBA from DePaul University, with a concentration in Finance, and a BS in Accounting from University of Illinois.

 

 

Mony Hassid, Managing Director, Israel

Mony Hassid is a Managing Director of Motorola Ventures in Israel.  In this role, he is responsible for identifying and executing strategic, minority-equity investments in technology companies that accelerate the advancement of Motorola's existing and future businesses and markets.

Mony brings over twenty years of experience in R&D, Business and Strategy Development and Venture investments. He reestablished the Ventures office in Israel in 2004 and has since invested in over a dozen companies, becoming a dominant corporate VC in the Israel Hi-Tech industry.

Prior to joining Motorola Ventures, Mony held key technology, engineering and business development positions in Motorola's Wireless Infrastructure sector.  He was also a consultant to first tier VCs, startups and entrepreneurs in Israel. 

Mony holds an M.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tel Aviv and an MBA from the Recanati Faculty University of Tel Aviv. Both with Cum Laude.

 

 

Stephen Moore, Investment Manager

Stephen Moore is an Investment Manager for Motorola Ventures based in London, UK.  In this role, Stephen identifies, executes, and manages private equity investments to accelerate Motorola's existing and future businesses.

Prior to this Stephen lead Motorola’s strategic development activities in Mobile Devices Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.  This included strategic planning, initiative creation and development and commercial support for non organic growth initiatives.

Before joining Mobile Devices Stephen was responsible for leading Strategic Alliances across the Global Core Networks Business and for building Motorola’s business for its Seamless Mobility offerings throughout Europe, Middle-East and Africa. Stephen also held roles leading the Intelligence and Strategy teams for the GSM networks business and the Wireless Systems Group on a global level.

Stephen is educated to post-graduate level and has undertaken a variety of executive and chartered qualifications.

 

 

Kim Morgan, Sr. Investment Analyst

Kim Morgan is an Investment Analyst for Motorola Ventures, based in Schaumburg, IL. In this role, Kim assists in the analysis, management and review of the current Motorola Ventures portfolio in addition to actively reviewing and analyzing opportunities for new strategic minority equity investments.

Prior to joining Motorola Ventures in 2006, Kim spent two years with Motorola in the Business Leadership Development Program, a company-wide initiative for developing leaders within the company. Kim has worked in different business functions including strategy, supply chain, and marketing throughout the various Motorola business units.

Kim's background prior to joining Motorola includes nearly a decade with the US Navy as a Combat Helicopter Pilot, Mission Commander, Maintenance Pilot, and Flight Instructor. During that time, she held various operational and program management positions both stateside and during her two deployments.

Kim holds an MBA from the University of West Florida and a BS in Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

 

 

Tony Palcheck, Managing Director, Midwest

Tony Palcheck is a Managing Director at Motorola Ventures, based in Schaumburg, IL. In this role he is responsible for identifying and executing strategic, minority-equity investments, at early and later stages, in start-up firms to accelerate access for all of Motorola's existing and future businesses to new technologies, new markets and new talent. Tony actively engages in intelligence collection and strategy generation for various Motorola business sectors, as well as serving as a key interface to Motorola Labs.

Prior to joining the Motorola Ventures, Tony was a Director in the Corporate Business Intelligence group at Motorola. In this role, Tony was responsible for identifying emerging technologies, evaluating market opportunities, researching potential investments, divestitures, acquisitions, alliances, and assessing competition. He joined the Intelligence group from Motorola's Cellular Infrastructure Group where he lead the 3rd Generation Cellular market requirements research, forecasting, and segmentation efforts. Prior to that Tony worked in various Product and Market Development roles at Motorola and Ameritech.

Tony holds an undergraduate degree in Management and Marketing, and an MBA from DePaul University in Chicago where he graduated with honors. He has spoken on behalf of Motorola in several Business Intelligence Forums including the Industrial Research Institute, The Management Roundtable, Northwestern University and serves as an advisor in DePaul University's ASK program which provides guidance to masters candidates.

 

 

Harshul Sanghi, Managing Director, West

Harshul Sanghi is a Managing Director of Motorola Ventures, based in Sunnyvale, CA.  Harshul’s role includes identifying, executing, and managing strategic investments in startup companies that will drive the realization of Motorola’s vision of Seamless Mobility.

Harshul comes to Motorola through its acquisition of Ucentric Systems, a leading provider of Whole Home Media solutions, where he was responsible for worldwide sales and market development of the consumer electronics sector. Harshul has extensive experience in the digital media, consumer electronics, and semiconductor industries. Prior to Ucentric, Harshul served as General Manager of the satellite and terrestrial business team of Philips Electronic’s North America Set-Top Box Division. At Philips, Harshul developed markets for direct to home satellite television and broadband satellite modems and was responsible for directing product development, strategy, sales, marketing, as well as business and strategic alliance development. Harshul’s early career was spent in various technical and sales management positions in Silicon Valley, Singapore, and Western Europe.

Harshul holds an MBA from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Oregon. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and Financial Management from the University of Bombay, India. Harshul is an active member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Organization and has spoken on numerous industry panels. Harshul, himself an entrepreneur, enjoys working with Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial community to drive the adoption of disruptive market technologies.

Chris Kutsor, Finance Director, Motorola Ventures

Chris Kutsor is the Finance Director for Motorola Ventures, and is responsible for the financial management of portfolio investments and business operations.  This includes valuation, pre/post deal financial execution, portfolio measurement, and business controls.  Chris also identifies, executes, and manages strategic equity investments on behalf of Motorola.

Prior to Motorola Ventures, Chris held diverse finance roles in Motorola’s Mobile Device business, Automotive Communications group, and a Motorola start-up focused on software and internet solutions.  Additionally, Chris led the financial execution and integration for Motorola’s acquisition of 4th PassTM into Motorola. 

Chris earned his MBA from the University of Chicago with concentrations in both Strategy and Finance, and holds a BS in Corporate Finance and Investments from the University of Illinois.  He holds several board positions with private businesses and is an advisor to the Hoeft Technology & Management Program at the University of Illinois.

 

 

Catherine A. McMillan, Senior Administrative Assistant

Catherine A. McMillan is currently the Senior Administrative Assistant of Motorola Ventures in Schaumburg, Illinois. Catherine joined Motorola Ventures in October of 2000. Prior to joining Motorola Ventures, she was the senior administrative assistant to the Corporate Vice President and Director Real Estate and Facility Operations, where she was responsible for overseeing the Worldwide Real Estate Database. In her venture role, Catherine supports the Corporate Vice President and Director of Venture Investing, as well as the Managing Directors for the Chicago and Cambridge, MA offices. Catherine is responsible for managing deal flow and business relation processes. Catherine has been with Motorola since March 1982.
