After more than twenty-five years with Motorola in virtually every area of the company and in a variety of leadership positions, Ray Sokola knows better than most the potential of seamless mobility. Now Chief Technology Officer of Connected Home Solutions (CHS), Ray began his career as one of the first engineers to work on cellular phone technology. He was later general manager of Motorola's Telematics Group, which supplies the in-vehicle equipment for OnStar and other security and information services.
Now his focus extends largely to harnessing the power of video. “The continuous increase in home bandwidth connections and speed, coupled with our expertise in video technology and security, place Motorola and CHS in a strong position in the world of seamless mobility technology,” says Ray. |

Seamlessness at Home |

A connected home experience starts with recognizing different data issues, particularly with video. Ray sees video as a particular challenge, unique to other data in terms of bandwidth, latency and packet loss issues. “Synchronization between the picture and associated audio, as well as minimizing artifacts in the picture, have proven to be a challenging, interesting set of problems to solve,” says Ray.
His work also enables a seamless delivery of a variety of advanced services over different network architectures and access platforms, including copper, optical, hybrid fiber coax and broadband wireless access networks. These and other innovations will drive broadband usage, taking the world one step closer to the connected home. “I am excited about the role that CHS will play in Motorola's future as we strive to bring seamless mobility to consumers,” says Ray. |
