Introduction

Located in Bangalore, India, the Motorola India Research Labs (MIRL) is one of twelve Motorola Labs locations worldwide. With 30 full-time research scientists and a steady stream of visiting professors, post-doctoral scholars and student interns, Motorola India Research Labs is conducting world-class research on technologies and solutions for connecting the unconnected and creating ‘cool’ new mobile applications and services for emerging markets.

Today, India is the fastest growing market for mobile communication in the world, and Motorola India Research Labs is focused on bringing Motorola’s vision of seamless mobility to developing regions of the world, taking communications beyond conventional voice connectivity and delivering its full potential as an enabler of economic development. Through active collaborations with industrial and academic research partners around the world the team is carrying out applied research crucial to the advancement of Motorola’s businesses.

There are three technology focused groups; enterprise applications, network systems and embedded systems, which work on communication technologies to fulfill our mission. In addition, a fourth group is exclusively focused on communication solutions for emerging markets.  The research topics span all networking layers, from physical, Media Access Control (MAC) and network layers to application and services.
