USB Queries and/or difficulties
Q: Do Motorola Cable Modems support USB for MAC operating systems?
A: Motorola Cable Modems support MACs via Ethernet but unfortunately do not support USB for MAC at this point in time and currently there is no plan to do so.
Q: I would like to connect my Cable Modem via USB on my PC but :-
a) I need you to supply new USB drivers for the modem. Or,
b) I have recently upgraded my PC operating system to Windows XP and now I'm
receiving a blue screen notifying me of an USB error, a conflict or a Hyper-threading issue. Or,
c) I would now like to connect my Cable Modem via USB rather than by Ethernet but I have misplaced
or never received the CD which contains the USB drivers.
A: If you have experienced any of the above 3 USB items, please download Motorola’s latest USB drivers and follow the procedure below.
USB Installation Procedure
1. Create a temporary folder on the PC that will be connected to the Cable Modem.
2. Download and save the latest USB drivers zip file into the temporary folder.
3. Unzip this file by double clicking on it. It should open the winzip application displaying the 4 files.
4. Extract all 4 files into the temporary folder you created. The 4 files consist of a remove utility file and 3 other files which pertain to the USB driver itself.
5. Close the winzip application
ONLY COMPLETE STEP 6 IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED MOTOROLA USB DRIVERS ON THIS PC BEFORE!
6. In the temporary folder, double click on the remove utility file. This will delete any old versions of the Motorola USB driver on your hard drives. A window will come up telling you what the remove application is doing. It will also prompt you when it is complete. If you don't complete this step and you try to install the new drivers, the Cable Modem will still point to the old drivers on your PC and therefore you will still experience the previous fault.
7. With your installation CD that you received with your Motorola Cable modem, you then need to run the USB installation program. This will guide you through the USB installation.
OR
Simply disconnect your modem from your PC and then reconnect it. Your PC will go thru an auto-detect process for new hardware which has been connected. i.e. The Motorola Cable Modem.
8. Your PC will then prompt you select the location where your USB drivers reside. You will need to point it to the location to this temporary folder you have created.
Q : Will my Motorola cable modem or gateway work with Windows Vista?
A: Motorola cable modems or gateways will work with Windows Vista (both 32 bit and 64 bit version) if you are using Ethernet to connect your PC to the cable modem without the need for any drivers.
However, if you want to use USB to connect the cable modem to your PC, then existing USB drivers (downloadable from http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/support/default.asp?SupportSection=CableModems ) will currently work only with 32 bit version of Windows Vista. New USB drivers are required for 64 bit version of Windows Vista (to be available later during 2007).
Telstra Heartbeat Client Software
- If you have a standard Motorola Cable Modem (SB4100, SB4101, SB4200, SB5100), then you will need to install the Telstra Client software onto your PC. Please use the Telstra CD, as supplied by Telstra with your Big Pond Service.
- If you wish to install a router behind your standard Motorola Cable Modem, the router will require the Telstra Client software to be built into it. Please consult your router’s user manual or supplier's support services to determine if your router supports Telstra’s Bigpond Heartbeat Client.
- If you have a Motorola SBG900, then the Telstra Client software is already integrated into the Cable Modem. Please follow the instructions on page 22 of the SBG900 User Manual.
