Motorola Announces the Opening of Its Energy Systems Group Shanghai Center

Center Provides Local Design Services and Supply Chain Management

SHANGHAI, P.R. China -- July 10, 2002 -- Motorola (NYSE:MOT) today announced the opening of its Energy Systems Group (ESG) Shanghai Center. The Center initially provides design services and supply chain management for the Asia Pacific Region with additional business operations, quality and product safety centers of excellence to follow. Motorola ESG provides complete energy system solutions for portable electronics including cellular phones, personal digital assistants, notebook computers, and two-way radios. ESG leverages a broad range of technologies and systems expertise to deliver integrated energy solutions for many of today's leading brand-name wireless communication and computing devices. The businesses' full range of services includes global manufacturing, logistics management, product testing services, technology assessment, licensing partnerships, supply chain management, dedicated customer support, and energy system design services.

ESG applies a wealth of energy systems and components knowledge to deliver integrated energy system solutions for portable electronics. Through performing ongoing systematic evaluation of all suppliers, ESG has the flexibility to offer a variety of alternatives in cells and electronics. With the integration expertise developed through their years of experience in designing energy systems, ESG offers their customers solutions that optimize the performance of the host device.

"Motorola Energy Systems Group is expanding its presence in Asia to demonstrate our commitment to our customers who require closer working relationships early in their development stages of portable consumer products," said Padmasree Warrior, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Energy Systems Group.
"Recent advances in technology require our energy system solutions to provide greater energy density within ever shrinking product packaging. The increasing demand by consumers for portable electronic devices with advanced features and functionality is driving us to partner with our customers and suppliers to work together to meet the consumers' energy expectations."

The Shanghai Center, a key location for Energy Systems Group, supports Motorola's business development strategy to deliver industry-leading embedded electronic solutions. As Motorola China recently announced, the corporation has developed a five-year strategy that is aimed at growing with China by expanding its investments and utilizing a localization strategy.

"The opening of the Shanghai Center further demonstrates Motorola's decision and commitment to establish and secure a strong partnership with China while contributing to the remarkable business growth in this region," said Percy Lam, Asian general manager of Motorola Energy Systems Group. "With the great potential for portable energy systems worldwide and especially in the Asia Pacific region, our Shanghai Center is a significant growth opportunity for Motorola, Shanghai, and China."

"The establishment of Motorola Energy Systems Group Shanghai Center is just one element of Motorola's China strategy," said Jenny Wang, vice president and director of corporate finance for Motorola China. "By partnering with China, we are confident that we will continue leading the China market."
