“MotoMania” Continues as
Motorola Unveils New Mobile Handsets at
CeBITTechnology Innovation,
Design and Stimulating Mobile Experiences Continues With Current 2003 Portfolio
Hannover, Germany, CeBIT – 14 March
2003 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in wireless communications,
today unveiled two new additions to its mobile handset portfolio –
continuing to turn up the volume in creating cutting-edge gaming, entertainment
and music experiences. These two new mobile phones join nine other new Motorola
handsets unveiled earlier this year at Motorola’s signature
“HelloMoto” event in Shanghai and GSM World Congress in Cannes.
CeBIT will be the first time all 11 new handsets have been displayed together
– collectively demonstrating Motorola’s leadership in GSM, GPRS,
EDGE, UMTS/WCDMA, JAVA, BREW, LINUX, EMS and
MMS.
“Our new handsets are the latest
evidence of our 75-year commitment to innovation in this industry,” said
Tom Lynch,
president Motorola Personal Communications Sector. “By providing
consumers with feature-rich and stylish mobile devices we are actively
encouraging growth within the market through both new users and those who wish
to replace or upgrade their handsets. Our current handset portfolio is designed
for all users across all price points – enabling them to express
themselves through design, personalisation and creative
communication.”
Motorola E390:
Stimulate all Senses The crazy
‘kid’ in all of us will naturally grab for the new Motorola E390,
which leverages advances by Motorola in sound, lighting, vibration and photo
technologies to create a mobile experience like no other. This tri-band phone
allows youthful consumers to ‘rock their senses’ through dual
speaker technology – creating live surround-sound with the model
E390’s 24-channel, 3D polyphonic speaker system. The Motorola E390 sound
factory experience with the embedded MotoMixer ring tone composer enables
consumers to create one-of-a-kind ringtone by adding or removing instruments and
creating their own rhythm. Add the compatible FM Stereo Radio headset or MP3
Player accessories and the E390 model will have consumers rocking all day and
night.
The show continues with the Motorola
E390’s innovative use of fun lights to bring content, games and ringtones
to the next level, with multiple lights on the front and sides that light up to
the disco beat or a car crash when playing MotoGPTM. And consumers actually
will feel the car crash – at least their hands will – with the new
vibration capabilities of the model E390. The integrated camera will let them
share their fun: just point, click, capture and share the fun with advanced MMS
technology.
Motorola C230: Luxuriously
AffordableThe new Motorola C230 answers the
calls of consumers who want an affordable way to join the wireless world along
with the latest “gotta have” features. This new dual-band GSM
mobile phone offers consumers the ability to text, talk and rock in style with a
great-looking handset. Consumers can stay in touch with SMS, EMS and picture
messaging technologies, keeping family and friends close at all
times.
Personalisation arrives in the
entry-level category with the model C230’s ability to download new
wallpaper, screensavers or overall themes – instantly changing the look of
their Motorola C230. Consumers can go ring tune crazy downloading their
favourite hits which will sound crystal-clear with the model C230’s
16-channel polyphonic speaker. Add a variety of changeable outside covers and
the model C230 can quickly and easily change to match the look of every
outfit.

Solutions for All Markets and All
TechnologiesMotorola’s handsets,
applications and accessories strategy delivers solutions for all of the
world’s major technologies – GSM-GPRS (Global System for Mobile
Communications-Global Packet Radio Service), CDMA (Code Division Multiple
Access), CDMA1X, TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), EDGE and 3G/UMTS.
Motorola is a global leader in both CDMA and 3G/UMTS. Motorola’s strength
in CDMA and CDMA1X solutions has fuelled market growth in the Americas and
ongoing market leadership in China.
Looking to
the future, Motorola is expected to be the first of the world’s top two
handset manufacturers to go commercial with 3G/UMTS handsets, having developed
the world’s de facto and factual first dual-mode 3G/UMTS handset, the
Motorola A830, introduced to the market in 2002. When other handset
manufacturers backed away from TDMA, Motorola took the long view – a move
that has paid dividends with increased market share across all price points in
Latin America, placing Motorola in a strong position with consumers as operators
migrate their infrastructures to GSM or
CDMA.
AvailabilityAll
products are either available already, depending on model and market, or are
expected to be available towards the end of 2003. Availability schedules and
handset features will vary by region and by air-interface technology. For
