South Central Rural Telephone Cooperative
Leverages Motorola Video Overlay Solution to Become First IOC to Reach 10,000
Subscriber Milestone
The
Motorola solution empowers South Central to scale quickly --offering advanced
“Triple Play” services over telephone
lines.
HORSHAM, Pa. and GLASGOW, Ky.
– 11 October 2004 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and South Central
Rural Telephone Cooperative Corporation, Inc. (SCRTC), today announced a
significant milestone with the deployment of the 10,000th customer of
SCRTC’s Digital Video service. The landmark deployment represents the
single largest “triple play” (voice, video and data) over xDSL
implementation in the Independent Operating Company (IOC) customer market
segment to
date.
Time-to-market is
critical for telecommunications operators looking to scale their offerings and
remain competitive. Leveraging the Motorola
Multi-Service Access Platform to support the delivery of advanced
services, SCRTC has, within two years, established a foundation that today
enables the delivery of a wide array of next generation services.
The Motorola video overlay solution is a
highly reliable multi-stream digital video solution that enables service
providers to quickly and efficiently deploy advanced services and applications
using their existing network infrastructure and communications technology. The
delivery of entertainment services remains one of the final challenges facing
traditional telecommunications providers in their quest to deliver voice, video
and data over traditional telecommunication infrastructure. This strategy can
open substantial new windows of opportunity for service providers to deploy
additional next-generation advanced services and solutions that can increase
profitability and drive competitive differentiation.
“The fact that South Central has been
able to realize and satisfy this surge in subscriber demand is a true testament
to the Motorola platform’s flexibility and scalability,” said Forest
Wilson, general manager, South Central Telephone Cooperative. “By
enabling us to cost-effectively and efficiently deploy video and data services
over existing DSLAM infrastructure, the Motorola architecture allows us to not
only deliver high-demand services today, but also to address future
growth.”
“As more telecommunication
service providers deploy triple play broadband services, there is an increased
need for a architecture than can work in conjunction with existing network
infrastructure, accommodate the addition of new services, and scale to meet
future growth in the subscriber base,” said Bruce
Swail, Motorola corporate vice president and general
manager, telecom access solutions. “Using the Motorola platform, South
Central Rural Telephone Cooperative has quickly and cost-effectively deployed
one of the most successful video-over-xDSL operations in the country. We are
proud to have SCRTC as a customer and look forward to working with the company
as it builds on its success in the telco TV
arena.”
The Motorola Telecom Access
Solutions business enables telecommunication service providers to deliver
triple-play services over a variety of network architectures and access
platforms, including copper, fiber, and fixed broadband wireless
networks.
Motorola has provided the telecom
industry with video infrastructure technology for over ten years. The
company’s platform currently delivers over 600,000 independent streams of
digital video, representing over 90% of the North American installed base of
xDSL video services.
