Motorola Drives Next Generation Services with Push-to-View
Continues to Lead Industry with First Push-to-Experience Application for GSM PoC handsets at 3GSM World Congress
CANNES, France, 3GSM World Congress -- 14 February 2005 -- Motorola, Inc., a global leader in wireless communications, today announced plans to take “push-to” technology to the next level as the first company to deliver a complete “Push-to-View” solution on GSM PoC (Push-to-Talk over Cellular) handsets. The company will demonstrate this offering at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes.
With Push-to-View, the first in the family of “Push-to-Share” applications, consumers can now see the presence state of their contacts and spontaneously share pictures, captured on their phone, quickly and easily. Whether at work or at play, GSM PoC subscribers will have the ability to send voice or image messages — all at the push of a button*. For operators deploying PoC networks worldwide, Push-to-View capabilities provide a new real-time multimedia services data application that can lead to increased revenue and differentiation opportunities.
Push-to-View will be the first offering in a broader category of peer-to-peer file sharing applications slated from Motorola over the next year — including video, audio and other rich media – all designed to further extend the concept of one-touch communications.
“Motorola is driving the ‘Push-to’ revolution by creating new and different experiences for consumers worldwide,” said Joel Holl, director, GSM PTT Products, Motorola. “By continually expanding what’s possible with this technology, we’re enabling consumers to connect to the people and information that mean the most to them, quickly, easily, and intuitively.”
Motorola: Leading in PoC With 12 years of experience in Push-to-Talk and over 70 years in the two-way radio business, Motorola has been first to market with major Push-to-Talk enhancements: • World’s First and Second commercial launches of PoC; • First EMEA contract for PoC; • First APAC contract for PoC; • First Push-to-Talk over Cellular handset; and • First Cross-Technology PoC Solution (enabling “push-to” connectivity across GPRS, EDGE, CDMA2000 1X and WiFi) To date, Motorola has won 23 contracts with 19 network operators covering 27 countries worldwide to supply PoC infrastructure and/or handset solutions for both CDMA2000 1X and GSM/GPRS networks — and will continue leading the industry in deployments and innovation. Simple, Seamless Solutions* Motorola’s end-to-end PoC solutions build upon the company’s vast experience in push-to-talk: • enabling operators to easily deploy service today — giving subscribers a new way to communicate with colleagues, friends and family • providing unique features like presence — which allow callers to see who’s available to connect with before they “push-to” • engineering handsets designed to optimize the “Push-to” experience with an easy to use, friendly, and intuitive user interface. • laying a foundation for new “Push-to-Experience” data opportunities, including Push-to-View — the first step on the evolutionary path to IMS applications. • taking a leadership position in the development and introduction of innovative PTT enhanced feature capabilities. The integrated handset/client/server solution is open standards-based, promoting interoperability, exceptional scalability and cost-efficient ongoing operation and management.
Motorola & Interoperability Motorola is committed to the industry-led effort to define technical standard specifications for PoC. Interoperability is an enabler for broad-based acceptance of a new service like PoC and is fundamental to ensuring PoC services meet user expectations whether on their home network or while roaming. Motorola continues its work with other industry leaders and has announced joint interoperability testing to promote a final PoC standard for submission to Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).
In February 2004, Motorola announced its PoC Device Interoperability Program, extending its commitment to make its interface specifications available to licensees, and will help speed the introduction of a wider choice of PoC handsets to market, benefiting both consumers and operators.
