Motorola to Demonstrate the Power of Communications Servers at 3GSM World Congress
Highlights Open Carrier Grade Common Platform Supporting Applications in IMS, WiMAX, IP PBX and Multimedia Messaging
TEMPE, Ariz — February 7, 2006 — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it will showcase the power of its industry-leading communications servers—the open foundation for seamless mobility—at the 3GSM World Congress, to be held in Barcelona, Spain on February 13 -16. Proof-of-concept demonstrations of Motorola’s AdvancedTCA® (ATCA) and MicroTCATM products will be onsite to illustrate the rapid growth in potential applications for communications servers, including IMS, WiMAX, IP PBX and Multimedia Messaging.
To further accelerate the adoption of communications servers for embedded communications computing, Motorola also announced a series of initiatives and product developments. These are designed to enable equipment manufacturers to focus on adding their application-specific value, thereby reducing the time, cost and risk involved in deploying new revenue-generating services or migrating existing services to standards-based technology.
“Communications server momentum is here now,” said Wendy Vittori, corporate vice president and general manager, Embedded Communications Computing, Motorola. “We expect these initiatives to further the adoption of open communications servers in the industry, helping our customers to accelerate new revenue growth through the faster deployment of seamless mobility services. Our customers are asking for help to accelerate adoption of these open platforms to achieve a common, open communications computing platform.”
Latest Developments in Embedded Communications Computing - A new Communications Server Alliance program that includes a new certification process and interoperability lab to enable qualified program participants’ products to be pre-tested and validated to work with Motorola’s communications servers.
- A suite of professional services to help reduce the entry barriers for telecom equipment manufacturers producing lower cost, high performance network elements using standard hardware and software components.
- A new series of MicroTCA communications servers, the Centellis™ 1000 series, to help equipment manufacturers develop and deploy products faster and more cost-efficiently. With this announcement, Motorola extends its portfolio to enable telecom equipment manufacturers and defense prime contractors and diverse other industry segment applications to implement a common communications platform for a wide range of network core, edge and access applications.
- A strategic alliance naming Interphase Corporation as Motorola’s preferred provider for I/O AdvancedMCs, which will be key components of Motorola’s ATCA and MicroTCA open communications servers.
- General availability of release 2 of Motorola’s ATCA–based communications servers, the Centellis 3405 and Avantellis™ 3405. Centellis 3000 series communications servers integrate and verify ATCA hardware, carrier grade operating system and low-level software and provide a clean interface to customer high availability middleware and user applications. Avantellis 3000 series communications servers integrate and verify ATCA hardware, carrier grade operating system and low-level software as well as Motorola’s NetPlane™ Software, Service Availability™ Forum compliant middleware that extends the benefits of the communications server sourcing model.
- Initial details of release 3 of Motorola’s ATCA-based communication servers, the Centellis/Avantellis 3406 and the Centellis/Avantellis 3600. Release 3 brings full RoHS compliance for the entire Centellis/Avantellis 3000 series of ATCA-based communication servers. It also introduces Advanced Mezzanine Cards (AdvancedMC) technology into Centellis-Avantellis 3000 series of ATCA-based communication servers, increasing the flexibility of modular computing within a single ATCA shelf.
3GSM World Congress Demonstrations - ATCA communications server proof-of-concept developed in collaboration with Intel featuring up to three core IP Multimedia Subsystem functional areas and content from an ecosystem of independent software vendors.
- Multimedia Messaging Service Center proof-of-concept developed in collaboration with Motorola’s Networks business that shows the possible evolution of its ATCA system to consolidate multiple network elements onto a single communications server.
- Centellis 1000 series MicroTCA communications server configured as a WiMAX base transceiver station showing that an open carrier grade base platform integrated, validated and certified by Motorola can speed time-to-market and reduce cost.
- Centellis 1000 series MicroTCA communications server configured for enterprise exchange solution providers featuring an open source enterprise level IP-based private branch exchange software suite.
- Avantellis 3000 series ATCA communications server high availability failover demonstration of a live video call featuring Motorola’s NetPlane Software for service availability.
