Motorola’s COMPACT TETRA Making a
Difference for Trunking Operator Mobicom in Hamburg Harbour
Harbour workers in Germany are
first to benefit from COMPACT TETRA technology to improve the handling of
containers and stocking of goods
Hanover,
Germany, March 13, 2002 – Mobicom, a trunking operator based in Hamburg
Harbour – the seventh largest container port in the world, covering a
total area of nearly 7,500 hectares– has awarded a contract to Motorola
(NYSE:MOT) for its new TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) system designed
specifically for small and medium-sized businesses – COMPACT TETRA.
Harbour workers will benefit from the COMPACT
TETRA technology which offers a reliable, resilient and high quality digital
communications system. The harbour provides goods to most major-sized media,
food-processing, aerospace and electronics organisations in Hamburg. The TETRA
technology will be used by Hamburg Harbour’s cargo transloading facility
and materials processing centre, to improve and streamline the handling of
containers and stocking of
goods.
Motorola’s COMPACT TETRA provides
a cost-effective, robust backbone for small to medium sized organisations
seeking the benefits of TETRA technology by supporting a multitude of services,
including traditional PMR, wireless telephony, paging, packet data and up to a
maximum of 10k subscribers.
Users benefit
from a reliable TETRA infrastructure as well as award-winning TETRA subscribers,
and a portfolio of customer-specific applications (developed by Motorola
accredited 3rd party Application Partners), which will provide
customers with improved efficiency and
productivity.
COMPACT TETRA is easy to install,
its modular ‘plug and play’ system requires minimal engineering
support and is sold through regional channel partners that offer local
commissioning, maintenance and service contracts.
The system has been sold by Motorola’s
local accredited system partner ATS Elektronik GmbH in Hannover and will
be installed and operated by
Mobicom.
Hans-Joachim Ahrens, general manager
of Mobicom said: "Motorola’s COMPACT TETRA is an ideal way for Hamburg
Harbour to migrate from an analogue system to a digital trunking technology.
The system offers a reliable and robust communications system that will help
improve efficiency and effectiveness of employees at the
harbour."
John McConnell, the Subscriber Group
Director at Motorola, said: “Most people probably think that TETRA is a
technology for large-scale nation-wide projects only. This contract with
Mobicom shows how Motorola’s COMPACT TETRA enables small and medium sized
businesses to reap the benefits of digital communications
technology.”
