Communication Officer
SCHAUMBURG, ILL --
March 18, 2002 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) has named Janilee Johnson, corporate
vice president, to the position of chief communication officer, effective April
1. She succeeds Rusty Brashear, who has chosen to retire after a 15-year career
with Motorola.
Johnson will be responsible
for leading Motorola’s worldwide internal and external communication
programs, including brand management, public affairs, media relations, marketing
communications, global web communication and employee and customer
communications.
Johnson brings more than 20
years’ executive experience in business and government to her new role.
Prior to joining Motorola, she was vice president of public relations and brand
management at Bellcore (now Telecordia), the nation’s largest provider of
communications software, engineering and consulting services. Johnson also
served as head of the executive communications and information division at NYNEX
Corporation in New York. During the 1980s, she worked as special assistant and
chief speechwriter for the US Secretary of
Education.
Since joining Motorola in 1999,
Johnson has served as vice president and director of communications and public
affairs for Motorola’s former Communications Enterprise and, most
recently, as corporate vice president and director of communications and public
affairs for the company’s Network Sector, where she reported to Ed Breen,
Motorola’s recently appointed president and chief operating officer.
(Note: She was elected a corporate vice president after CE, so is different
title.)

Executive Program in Business Administration at Columbia University and earned a
bachelor of science degree in organizational communication from Utah State
University. She is a member of the board of trustees of the Arthur Page Society
and serves in a number of other professional and business organizations. She is

established the company’s first integrated communications and public
affairs organization. Prior to his career at Motorola, Brashear served as
deputy press secretary to President Ronald Reagan.
