Motorola Introduces Motofolio Content Source
for Mobile Ecosystem
System
allows network operators to manage an array of compelling
content
Developers can register
applications, leverage Motorola distribution
channels
CANNES, France -- 17
February 2003 – Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today unveiled Motofolio, a
web-based wireless content publishing and sourcing system. Motofolio provides
rich content to operators and accompanying services to software developers,
including financial reconciliation.
Through
Motofolio, Motorola offers network operators a “one-stop shop” for
all content needs, allowing them to market differentiated offerings that help
raise average revenue per user. The Motofolio solution will be demonstrated at
3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, at the Motorola stand, A21, Hall 1,
Palais des Festivals.
Motofolio is a key
element of Motorola's end-to-end digital content distribution offering. It
enables content distribution and provisioning systems to have access to
Motorola's library of digital content featuring Java
2™ Microedition
(J2ME™)-based applications. This content
includes popular, name-brand games as well as state-of-the-art,
productivity-enhancing applications.
Motofolio
offers a broad selection of content for multiple devices and it will allow
network operators and distribution partners to search and deploy content for
different devices, languages and more. It will also manage all financial
reconciliation with third party software developers. This allows operators to
leverage Motorola’s global business development efforts for acquiring
compelling, revenue-generating
content.
“Motorola has demonstrated its
commitment to providing customised solutions that supply the demands of network
operators,” said Michael Bordelon, corporate vice president and general
manager of the Consumer Experience Planning and Software organisation in
Motorola’s Personal Communications Sector. “Motofolio will allow a
mutually beneficial exchange between operators and content developers, all based
on Java technology, the preferred platform for application
development.”
While Motofolio may be
implemented with any operator’s content distribution system, Motofolio
will offer out-of-the-box integration with the 4thpass MAS smart provisioning
technology. MAS powers some features in Motofolio. It allows operators to
offer multiple billing methods for content, including try-before-you-buy, and
MAS ensures content is delivered to the right
devices.
The Motofolio service is provided to
registered Motorola developers as part of the Motocoder program. This program
allows developers to publish their wireless content with Motorola, giving them
access to Motorola's worldwide distribution channels. Motorola will market
developers’ applications to a global audience including consumers and
operators, bringing more choice to the marketplace. Developers will be able to
focus on developing future applications, and Motorola will provide them with the
tools to track downloads, uptake, and profit generated by their
applications.
