Motorola Unveils Advanced Development Tools
Strategy for its 56F800 FamilyAUSTIN,
Texas - April 24, 2003 - Cost effective demonstration board and complimentary
CodeWarrior® Development Studio to support the advanced 56F800 30 MIPS
devices
What:
Motorola
drastically reduces prices for the CodeWarrior for DSP56800 development
environment offering rapid and cost-effective MCU and DSP system tools for
designers. Motorola aligns the 56800 strategy to MCU families with the
introduction of low-cost development tools.
Why:
The
CodeWarrior development tool speeds the OEM product to market. Cost effective
development tools are engineered to provide easy access to designers during hard
economic times and save companies significant development costs. The currently
priced $1,195 (USD) CodeWarrior for DSP56800 development environment has been
reduced and is available until August 2003 from $0 (complimentary) for memory
sizes up to 16 Kbytes to $495 (USD), for memory sizes greater than 16 Kbytes.
Benefits:
The
expansion of the 56F800 family targets low-end solutions requiring up to 30 MIPS
performance with a minimal investment in development tools. The two new devices
expand the evolving 56F800 family to nine (9) flash-based hybrid controller
devices. Further enhancements are currently planned to speed customer time to
market. The upcoming F8300 devices are currently sampling with production
scheduled for 4Q 2003.
Features:
Single
development environment equates to short development time
- Development kit includes:
- Complimentary CodeWarrior Development
Studio
- Demonstration board including 30 MIPS
56F801 processor
- Parallel cable and power
supply
- Software Development Kit and 56800
Training CD-ROMs
- Preprogrammed sample
application
- On-board expansion capabilities for
development activities
- DSP functionality that
"feels" like an MCU is easy to use
- Single
integrated circuit incorporating MCU and DSP provides cost
savings
Customer
Response:
Design engineers must balance
creative aspects of product development with expectations to produce in a timely
manner. The 56F800 facilitates improved efficiency and performance while
reducing system cost and power demands. Motorola is the first semiconductor
manufacturer to combine MCU and DSP capabilities on a single device.
Price and Availability:
The CodeWarrior for DSP56800 development
environment is available until the end of August 2003 at a suggested resale
price of $0 (complimentary) to $495 (USD), depending on memory size. The
Development Kit is available at a suggested resale price of $49.95(USD) with a
North American power supply (DSP56F800DEMO), or $64.95 (USD) with an
international power supply (DSP56F800DEMO-E). Note: the "F" in the part number
designates a flash-based device.
The suggested
resale price of the 30 MIPS 56F801 device is $3.30 (USD) each in 10,000 piece
quantities, and the suggested resale price of the 30 MIPS 56F802 device is $2.98
(USD) each in 10,000 piece quantities.
