Motorola Broadband Demonstrates New Offerings for the Connected Home at CeBIT 2003

Motorola’s innovative products allow operators to confidently expand the broadband services they offer to the home and office

HANNOVER, Germany, March 5, 2003 — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector, the world's leading supplier of digital cable set-tops and cable modems, will display innovative “connected home” products at CeBIT 2003.

Motorola will display a portfolio of wireless cable modem gateways, digital set-tops, telephony and home networking products – all designed to seamlessly leverage operators’ existing broadband infrastructure. Ultimately, these Motorola devices can provide new revenue opportunities to broadband service providers, and greater choice, convenience, and control to consumers. Network operators can offer these devices to their customers, bundling them with new applications and services. Motorola Broadband’s heritage in building cable networks ensures the devices’ compatibility, ease of use, and security.

“The Motorola cable modems and set-tops deployed throughout Europe provide a solid foundation for delivering new broadband services and applications,” said Paul King, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Broadband – Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). “The innovative products we are showing here at CeBIT are designed to drive broadband adoption by providing new ways for subscribers to take advantage of the broadband pipe coming into their homes.”

Motorola Broadband “connected home” products deliver high levels of productivity, instant entertainment, reliable telecommunications services, and the benefits of wireless, high-speed Internet access, all enabled by a user’s broadband connection. The number of broadband-enabled households in Europe is expected to grow 43 percent from over 18 million in 2003 to over 26 million by 2004, according to eMarketeer.

The European unveiling of these products will take place at Motorola Broadband’s booth at CeBIT 2003 (Hall 26, Stand E40). Motorola will demonstrate digital cable solutions, wireless cable modem gateways, and home networking products in addition to previewing some of its newest award-winning technologies for the “connected home” (including a cable-ready home theater system and a wireless digital audio receiver).

Motorola is also introducing the SBG900, based upon the SBG1000, which provides different features and functions to meet the variety of consumers’ home networking needs.

Wireless Home Networking Devices. Motorola will also offer two platforms (802.11b and 802.11g) of wireless home networking devices for those consumers more focused on data home networking. The product line includes adapters (Ethernet, notebook, USB), access points (Ethernet WAN and wireless LAN), broadband routers (Ethernet WAN/wireless and Ethernet LAN), and Ethernet routers and switches.

The Motorola SURFboard® SB5100E, which is 25 percent more compact than its predecessors, compatible with the developing Euro-DOCSIS 2.0 standard, and provides a tripled upstream capacity of 30Mbps on supported cable systems. Motorola will also demonstrate the SB5100, which recently received DOCSIS™ 2.0 CableLabs® Certification™.
