Motorola Broadband Introduces the SG4000
Scalable Optical Node
PHILADELPHIA -- May
12, 2003 -- Motorola, Inc., (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector today
introduced its new, fully segmentable 4x4 fiber optic node, the SG4000.
Combining a modular design with easily configurable signal paths, the Motorola
SG4000 provides broadband operators with a cost-effective solution for managing
their evolving network needs. The announcement was made at the 20th
Annual Cable-Tec Expo, held May 11-14, in Philadelphia,
Pa.
The Motorola SG4000 effectively provisions
bandwidth throughout an operator’s system to accommodate the varying
network requirements of advanced services such as video-on-demand (VOD),
telephony, and high-speed Internet data. The SG4000 accommodates up to nine
optics modules and a Hybrid Management Sub-Layer (HMS) compliant transponder.
Motorola’s high-speed Digital Return Time Domain Multiplexing technology
allows the SG4000 upstream to be incrementally segmented.
Further, the Motorola SG4000 utilizes four
independent RF Modules that may be placed within six output port locations to
allow flexible installations. This approach improves reliability by reducing a
single point of failure.
“With growing
consumer demand for services such as telephony, VOD, and IP data, operators need
the flexibility to re-provision, in a cost-effective and expedient manner, the
resources in their existing networks. With the Motorola SG4000, operators can
‘future-proof’ their infrastructure investment by effectively
managing customer growth without discarding their initial platform
investment,“ said Charles Dougherty, Motorola vice president and general
manager, network infrastructure solutions. “The introduction of the SG4000
highlights Motorola’s dedication to providing HFC solutions that support
the growth of telephony and video
services.”
Motorola Broadband is
displaying the SG4000 at Cable-Tec Expo, Section 2, Booth 1952.
