Retecal Selects Motorola Broadband for Data
and Telephony Network
Upgrade
Motorola to provide
Retecal with BSR 64000 CMTS/edge router, cable modems, multimedia terminal
adaptors, and professional services
KÖLN Germany, June 3, 2003 -
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector, the world’s
leading supplier of cable modems and digital cable set-tops, today announced
that Retecal has selected Motorola technology to upgrade its data and telephony
network. Retecal, located in Castilla-Leon, Spain, has a service area that
currently covers 500,000 homes and provides broadband services to 100,000
residential and enterprise users. After an extensive vendor evaluation, Retecal
selected Motorola’s technology solutions and services because Motorola
provides them with the best option for their migration towards standard
Euro-DOCSIS platforms. The announcement was made at the 2003 ANGA trade show,
June 3-5, in Köln, Germany, Motorola stand
B4.
Retecal plans to deploy Motorola’s
BSR 64000 CMTS/edge router to support both data and IP services.
Motorola’s technology, including cable modems and multimedia terminal
adaptors as well as its ongoing installation and training support, will allow
Retecal to create a state-of-the-art Euro-DOCSIS data transmission network for
its customers.
Motorola’s data and
telephony product offering includes Motorola customer premise equipment (CPE),
which serves as a communications gateway so that broadband network operators
like Retecal can offer bundled services to their customers. Motorola will
provide Retecal with CPE including the SB4200E and the compact SB5100E cable
modems, and the SBV4200E (VoIP) telephony-enabled cable modem.
“With Motorola’s technology and
ongoing support, we are confident that we will be able to build a world-class
Euro-DOCSIS network,” said Dionisio Fernández Auray, general
manager of Retecal. “With this advanced network in place, our customers
will have access to the next-generation data and telephony services they demand
- and we’ll be able to deliver those services and maintain our network as
cost-efficiently as
possible.”
“Motorola is pleased to
enable Retecal’s upgrade from a proprietary system to a fully functioning
Euro-DOCSIS network,” said Paul King, corporate vice president and general
manager of Motorola Broadband - Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
“Our advanced technology solutions and our training support will help
Retecal create a truly state-of-the-art network, which will deliver the advanced
services that customers demand both now and in the
future.”
