Motorola Broadband, Together with GrischaVision, Brings Broadband Communications to the Swiss Canton of Graubuenden

Motorola Broadband signs contract with GrischaVision to provide a communications network in the Alpine resorts of St. Moritz, the upper Engadin Valley, and the tourist area of Arosa in Switzerland

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, -- 11 Sept., 2003 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector, the world’s leading supplier of digital cable set-tops and cable modems, has been chosen by cable network operator GrischaVision to build a cable TV (CATV) and communications network that will provide residents, holiday-makers, and local businesses with digital cable television, digital radio, telephony services, and high-speed Internet access. The announcement was made prior to the IBC2003 trade show, September 12-16, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Under the terms of the agreement, Motorola will supply all electronic equipment for the 100-mile hybrid fibre-coax network, including the OmniStar® GX2 optical head-end platform, fibre electronic transmitters and receivers, optical nodes and amplifiers. GrischaVision recently completed the first phase of the new network’s pilot program, with approximately 1,000 customers already connected to the digital cable system. Upon completion in 2006, the system will ultimately serve 20,000 households and numerous hotels in the St. Moritz area.

About Motorola OmniStar® GX2
The Motorola OmniStar GX2 supports advanced HFC networks and accepts 16 plug-n-play application modules in 4 RU chassis for a high-density platform. Motorola’s new 1550nm products are based on technology from the Synchronous acquisition. The platform can be monitored and controlled locally through a Web browser interface or through a network management system using Ethernet-based SNMP.
