Motorola to Demonstrate Broadband Solutions
at ABTA 2003 That Enable Brazilian Operators to Confidently Expand Customer
Relationships Motorola will
display Wi-Fi®, home networking, digital set-top, and optical transmission
solutions targeted to meet the specific needs of Latin American cable operators
Sao Paulo, Brazil – 6 October 2003
— Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector, the world's
leading supplier of digital cable set-tops and cable modems, will demonstrate
wired and wireless broadband and solutions at ABTA 2003 (7-9 October 2003, Sao
Paulo, Brazil) that enable Brazilian operators to confidently expand customer
relationships by diversifying their service offerings.
The wireless home networking, digital set-top,
and carrier-class infrastructure products showcased at ABTA 2003 are examples of
the best-in-class broadband solutions that Motorola provides to operators in
Latin America and throughout the world. One highlight is the Motorola SBG900
wireless cable modem gateway, which combines the functionality of a cable modem,
wireless access point, advanced firewall security and more into a single product
– saving consumers from the cost of purchasing multiple devices as well as
from the time it takes to integrate them. These products are designed to
integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure, enabling operators to offer
greater choice, convenience, and control to their customers.
“The rapid proliferation of broadband
technologies, in addition to traditional pay-TV services, throughout Latin
America indicates a robust market,” said
G. Bickley Remmey,
Motorola Broadband corporate vice president and general manager, Latin America.
“As consumers and businesses look to do more with their broadband
connection, Motorola Broadband offers operators a substantial foundation from
which they can deliver new, high-value services and build profitable
relationships with their customers. The array of products being demonstrated at
ABTA 2003 is a reflection of Motorola’s dedication to the Brazilian market
and the entire Latin American region.”
This year, Motorola will also extend its show
presence beyond the booth, by supporting ABTA’s “Wi-Fi®”
pavilion, which will provide free wireless broadband access to show attendees.
Motorola will supply its wireless cable modem gateway solutions to power
Internet access throughout the convention facility. ABTA 2003 attendees will be
able to use their own Wi-Fi devices, or borrow PCMCIA cards at the event to gain
total mobility to surf the Web and access e-mail throughout the green pavilion
of Expo Center Norte in Sao Paulo.
For a
personal demonstration of Motorola’s broadband and wireless solutions for
Latin American operators at ABTA 2003, visit the Motorola Broadband booth (booth
C8), at the Expo Center Norte (Green Pavilion) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, 7-9 October

Motorola SBG1000 Wireless
Cable Modem GatewayThe industry’s first
wireless cable modem gateway combines two of Motorola’s inherent strengths
– its worldwide leadership in wireless communications and its technology
expertise in the broadband business. The Motorola SBG1000 replaces the need for
an individual cable modem, router and wireless access point by combining all of
this functionality into a single product, and provides added benefits such as
content filtering, advanced firewall protection, and virtual private networking
(VPN).
Wireless Home Networking
DevicesMotorola recently launched this family
of 802.11g wireless home networking products. The product line includes adapters
(Ethernet, notebook, PCI), access points (Ethernet WAN and wireless LAN),
broadband routers (Ethernet WAN/wireless and Ethernet LAN), and Ethernet routers
and switches.
Motorola SG4000 Optical
NodeA new, fully segmentable 4x4 fiber optic
node, the Motorola SG4000 combines a modular design with easily configurable
signal paths, and provides broadband operators with a cost-effective solution
for managing their evolving network needs. The SG4000 optical node effectively
provisions bandwidth throughout an operator’s system to accommodate the
varying network requirements of advanced services such as video-on-demand (VOD),
telephony, and high-speed Internet data. The Motorola SG4000 accommodates up to
nine optics modules and a Hybrid Management Sub-Layer (HMS) compliant
transponder. Motorola’s high-speed Digital Return Time Domain Multiplexing
technology allows the SG4000 upstream to be incrementally segmented.
Motorola
MBT-5000This data-optimized, multi-service
optical transport solution offers service flexibility and high port density, as
well as carrier-class reliability and QoS. The platform leverages a
standards-based, unified architecture that integrates next-generation SONET/SDH
technology with powerful Ethernet switching and DWDM capabilities. With the
MBT-5000 platform, broadband operators can deliver flexible Fast Ethernet and
Gigabit Ethernet services – as well as traditional voice and private line
services – efficiently over the same metro area network
infrastructure.
Motorola Multiservice
Enterprise Access (MEA-120F)The Motorola
MEA-120F is a shelf or wall-mounted chassis, for use at an end-user location
that requires 1-4 DS1/E1 and/or a single 100 Mb/s Ethernet interface. Deployed
in a Star topology, the MEA-120F also provides optional path
protection.
Motorola
DCT700The new Motorola DCT700 is an
all-digital set-top – designed to help operators realize the benefits of
all-digital networks, including bandwidth for high-definition content, on-demand
information and entertainment services, and piracy prevention. Latin American
operators can easily and cost-effectively deploy the DCT700 to leverage the
strength of their two-way networks and deliver basic interactive services such
as electronic program guides (EPGs), interactive pay-per-view (IPPV), and
video-on-demand (VOD).
Motorola DCT6208
Motorola’s DCT6208 set-top provides a
single, integrated device for digital video recording and high-definition
television. The flagship model of the Motorola set-top platform, the DCT6208
enables direct digital connections to consumer audio and video devices via
1394-DTV and DVI interfaces. The DCT6208 includes an integrated
DOCSIS®–compatible cable modem, and supports applications such as
video-on-demand (VOD) and interactive program guides (IPG) on supported cable
systems.
