Motorola Showcases Digital Television and
Broadband Solutions to Chinese Cable Operators at the International CATV
Technology Conference in
Hangzhou
Showcasing its suite
of broadband solutions, Motorola demonstrates how operators can confidently make
the transition to an all digital
system
HANGZHOU CHINA, -- 17 October 2003
-- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Broadband Communications Sector, the world’s
leading supplier of cable modems and digital cable set-tops is showcasing its
end-to-end system solutions that enable cable operators to achieve a seamless
transition to digital television networks at the International CATV Technology
Conference (ICTC) 2003 in Hangzhou (Motorola room 101).
“Motorola developed the first coaxial
cable system in the 1940’s. We saw the market potential and developed the
technology to help cable operators grow those opportunities. We’re now
building on that legacy in China and the rest of Asia-Pacific to help system
operators cost-effectively make the transition to digital,” said Horatio
Egnoto, Motorola vice-president and general manager -- Asia-Pacific.
“Pivotal to Motorola’s success has been the adoption of open-systems
that allow developers the freedom to create programs and applications tailored
to the needs of specific
operators.”
Motorola is working with
operators across Asia-Pacific to grow their businesses by helping them
understand the various ways digital technology can be customized to meet
consumer demands. Motorola’s end-to-end solutions provide broadcasters
the means to securely and cost-effectively deliver content to operators, while
leveraging existing infrastructure to provide new services to subscribers.
Motorola content encoding and infrastructure products are designed to work
together to deliver advanced services over an “always-on” broadband
connection.
Motorola’s booth at the ICTC
highlights the company’s latest products in four primary areas including
digital television, home networking, cable modems and network
infrastructure.
Digital Set-Tops
Motorola has a suite of digital set-top
solutions to meet the varying needs of cable operators. The Motorola DVi700
Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) platform was specially designed for systems
that need to deliver secure video and broadcast services over DVB-compliant CATV
networks. This set-top provides a cost-effective way to go digital. It’s
specially designed to help operators in Asia to make the transition to digital
systems easier.
Motorola’s DVi3000 is a
DVB-compliant core digital-interactive cable platform that provides expanded
channel capacity, virtual channels, and hyperlinking capabilities.
The DVi3000 is an advanced platform that
supports real-time reverse-path communications via DOCSIS/Euro-DOCSIS and Aloha
returns, providing a gateway to interactive services such as video-on-demand
(VOD), thin-client TV-based Internet, and electronic program guides
(EPGs).
IP Networking
Solution Motorola’s SBG900 builds upon
the success of Motorola’s SBG1000 – which marked the
industry’s first wireless cable modem gateway. Designed to provide a
simple way for broadband users to enjoy a wireless network in their home, the
SBG900 combines high-speed Internet access, networking and security – all
in one. With integrated SURFboard® cable modem technology, it
delivers high-speed Internet access, networking and security in one powerful
product. Motorola sees tremendous potential for this product aimed at the
growing number of small enterprises emerging across China.
Cable
Modem The latest extension of Motorola’s
flagship SURFboard cable modem line, the Motorola SB5100 offers the latest
DOCSIS 2.0-based technology and better performance than its predecessors, with a
43 percent faster processor. Supporting both USB and Ethernet 10/100 interfaces
as well as a standard HTML browser in the subscriber’s computer, the
Motorola SB5100 is virtually platform-independent.
Network Infrastructure
Solutions With Motorola’s MBT-5000
platform, broadband operators can deliver flexible Fast Ethernet and Gigabit
Ethernet services – as well as traditional voice and private line services
– efficiently over the same metro area network infrastructure. This
data-optimized, multi-service optical transport solution offers service
flexibility and high port density, as well as carrier-class reliability and
quality of service (QoS).
Motorola
Starline® Line Extender (SLE) provides Operators with a
single-output RF amplifier in a cost-effective design that meets Asian market
requirements. The SLE utilizes common Motorola ergonomic accessories with
internal splitting capabilities and is available in either line or mains-powered
versions. The SLE unit is also locally manufactured in China facilities, thus
further ensuring market supply and servicing.

conditional access system offers industry-leading security and access control
for the delivery of DVB/MPEG-2 digital signals. Motorola offers scalable access
control solutions designed to meet the needs of a full range of network sizes
and digital deployment plans. With its unique suite of local, regional, and
