Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS/Router Selected by Bresnan Communications for Rollout of High-Speed Data Services Throughout the Rocky Mountain Region

Motorola’s next-generation, carrier-class platform emerges as the CMTS/router of choice among cable operators

ANAHEIM, Ca. – 3 Dec. 2003 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) Broadband Communications Sector today announced that Bresnan Communications has chosen the Motorola Broadband Services Router (BSR) 64000 for deployment of high-speed data services to customers in its Rocky Mountain Region. In addition to the rollout of high-speed data services, the platform will be leveraged to support future advanced services deployments in the region.

Bresnan selected the next-generation Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS/router following a trial deployment and testing of the platform’s advanced features. Motorola will work closely with Bresnan to implement advanced IP-based services throughout Bresnan’s footprint.

“We challenged Motorola to fit a demanding set of requirements specific to our unique needs. The Motorola BSR 64000 was the one CMTS/router platform that met those requirements to support high-speed offerings, including flexibility, reliability, while positioning us for future services,” commented Shawn Fisher, director of advanced services at Bresnan Communications. “In addition, the Motorola technology provides ease of both deployment and operation, which are vital attributes as we expand our system. The Motorola BSR 64000 has proven itself to be the best platform not only to support our current high-speed data services, but to accommodate future advanced services deployments.”

“Bresnan’s dedication to quality of service and support is evident through its ongoing service deployments and system upgrades throughout the region,” said Charles Dougherty, Motorola vice president and general manager, network infrastructure solutions. “As a long-time leading supplier to the industry, Motorola is proud to partner with Bresnan, a company which sets extremely high standards for both the technologies and vendors on which it relies. This relationship further solidifies Motorola’s position as the market leader in CMTS/router technology.”

This news follows the companies’ May 27, 2003 announcement of Bresnan’s selection of the Motorola BSR 64000 for a 3,000-mile infrastructure upgrade throughout its cable systems in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah.

About the Motorola BSR 64000
The Motorola BSR 64000’s high-performance, high-density design – based on centralized routing and distributed forwarding – provides the benefits of simple configuration (single router appearance), scalable performance (each additional line card brings an associated forwarding engine), and low cost of entry (operators need only purchase the forwarding power required). With its hardware-based packet processing, the Motorola BSR 64000 can support large populations of modems and multiple services through its appropriate treatment in real time.
