RESTON, Va. and PLANTATION, Fla. – 4 December
2003 − Nextel Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:
NXTL), Nextel Partners (NASDAQ: NXTP) and Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today introduced
the first all-weather* mobile phone with Nationwide Direct ConnectSM,
the Motorola i305. The GPS-enabled phone has been designed with a focus on
durability, to meet the needs of customers in industrial sectors such as
construction and public service, as well as the outdoor enthusiast who demands a
phone that can resist dust, shock, vibration, and extreme environments. Also
resistant to blowing rain, humidity and salt fog, the Motorola i305 can
withstand temperatures ranging 14° to 248°
Fahrenheit.
Equipped with Nextel’s
Nationwide Direct Connect , the Motorola i305 adheres to
Military Standards 810 F, for both rugged construction and rain-resistance. The
handset features a rubber encasing and sculpted grip for comfort, as well as a
brushed chrome lens guard. The phone’s interior lining and seals protect
against exposure to rain, sleet, and snow
intrusion.
"Nextel continues to remain focused
on providing communication tools for customers in the industrial sector that are
designed to help them be more productive in both their business and personal
lives,” said Blair Kutrow, vice president, product management, Nextel.
“The i305 is ideal for individuals who require a rugged phone, yet still
demand the latest mobile technology and enhanced features and services they have
come to expect from Nextel.”
The Motorola
i305 also features the same invaluable integrated services available in all
phones that run on the Nextel network. These services include: digital cellular
service, Nationwide Direct Connect --the incredibly powerful coast to coast
long-range walkie-talkie that allows for communication at the touch of one
button; Nextel Online® Web; email; and text
messaging
services. “The
durable Motorola i305 was designed for those who work and play in environments
where their phone is often exposed to a variety of risks including blowing rain,
dust, shock and vibration – whether it’s a construction worker on
the job site or a weekend warrior on the hiking trail,” said Peter
Aloumanis, general manager, Motorola’s iDEN®
Subscriber Group.
The Motorola i305 is also
speakerphone capable and offers assignable ring tones**, a 600-entry phonebook,
and a SIM card for easy transfer of information between Nextel phones by
