Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS/Router Platform to
be Deployed by Time Warner Cable for Advanced Data
Services
Reliability, ease of
operation, performance, and density cited as key factors in the selection for
the deployment of DOCSIS® 1.1-based
services
HORSHAM, Pa., – 1 March 2004
– Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced that Time Warner Cable, North
America’s second largest cable operator, has approved the Motorola
Broadband Services Router (BSR) 64000 for deployment of DOCSIS® 1.1-based IP
services throughout its cable systems in the United States. The operator will
begin deploying the Motorola BSR 64000 with a fully redundant configuration in
its key San Diego market, which will mark the first deployment of the Motorola
BSR 64000 in a Time Warner Cable system.
Time
Warner Cable selected Motorola after extensive lab and field testing proved that
the Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS/router would support – and further increase
– the operator’s penetration of advanced high-speed data services.
The Motorola BSR 64000 carrier-class features – specifically its
reliability, ease of operation, performance, density and high availability
– in particular helped distinguish the
platform.
“As Time Warner Cable continues
to advance its high-speed data offering and begin to provide advanced voice
services, there is an increased need for next-generation, high-availability CMTS
with advanced routing,” said Jeff King, executive vice president, Time
Warner Cable Network Services and president, Road Runner. “To date, the
Motorola BSR 64000 is the only high density CMTS approved by Time Warner Cable
and will provide us with the ability to cost-effectively deploy services and
support customers.” “Time
Warner Cable has high standards and expectations when it comes to deploying
systems that support its critical services,” said Charles
Dougherty, Motorola vice president and general manager,
network infrastructure solutions. “The BSR 64000 provides the flexibility,
scalability, and high-availability needed to ensure streamlined deployment of
reliable IP services serving large populations. We are proud to work with Time
Warner Cable to make this
possible.”
About the Motorola BSR
64000 The Motorola BSR 64000’s
high-performance, high-density design – based on centralized routing and
distributed forwarding – provides the benefits of simple configuration
(single router appearance), scalable performance (each additional line card
brings an associated forwarding engine), and low cost of entry (operators need
only purchase the forwarding power required). With its hardware-based packet
processing, the BSR 64000 can support large populations of modems and multiple
services through its appropriate treatment in real time.
