Motorola MPx one of First to Utilize New
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Software
First-of-a-kind Motorola dual-hinge
design fully leverages new software
capabilities
SAN FRANCISCO — 24
March, 2004 — Today, Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in
wireless, broadband and automotive communications technologies, announced that
its new model Motorola MPx, which was announced earlier this year at 3GSM World
Congress, will be one of the first devices to utilize Microsoft’s new
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition software. Bill Gates unveiled the new
Windows Mobile software today during his keynote at the
Microsoft® Mobile Developer Conference (DevCon) 2004 in San
Francisco. Motorola will integrate the new software with its MOTOPro Innovation
Platform to deliver a cutting-edge real-time mobile assistant for professionals
– at work, on the road, at home and at
play.
Part of the Motorola MOTOPro™
series of handsets featuring Microsoft Windows® Mobile software, the
Motorola MPx delivers a radical new approach to communications for the mobile
professional. The dual-hinge device opens both in portrait and in landscape mode
as an exceptional email device with a wide screen, stylus and full QWERTY
keyboard. With this design, the Motorola MPx takes full advantage of the
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition’s new dynamic screen switching feature,
allowing seamless transitions between ‘landscape’ and
‘portrait’ mode.
“The new
Motorola MPx leverages the MOTOPro Innovation Platform and the latest Windows
Mobile 2003 Second Edition software to extend the power of the desktop into the
mobile space like never before,” Michael
Tatelman, vice president and general manager of the MOTOPro Product Group,
Motorola Mobiles. “This combination, fueled with innovative applications
and solutions from the developer community, gives mobile professionals the
freedom to live real-time.”
Real-time
Email Experience The Motorola MPx replaces the
multi-device syndrome by ingeniously blending the best of a mobile phone,
personal data assistant (PDA) and email messenger in one easy-to-use compact
device. The familiar Outlook email, Internet browsing, streaming video and
access to corporate applications are all within easy reach using the Motorola
MPx.
The tri-band GSM/GPRS Motorola device is a
truly essential business tool, with advanced features such as built-in Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth® wireless technology, and infrared support for effortless data
exchange. The Motorola MPx also takes advantage of a 2.8 inch, 16-bit color
display to provide an impressive 320 x 240 pixels. This feature allows for
utilization of a large base of existing and upcoming Pocket PC® and
Java™ applications, enabling users to maximize their mobile
experience.
The Motorola MPx boasts up to 1GB
of expandable memory, an integrated 1.2 megapixel camera with flash, and
Java™ technology. With the Windows Media Player®, the Motorola MPx
also provides users with essential entertainment options to balance out the busy
workday.
The device is built on the
MOTOPro™ Innovation Platform, a feature-rich software and hardware
platform that delivers Motorola’s design and technologies, as well as the
Microsoft Windows Mobile software.
