Motorola Launches New Infrastructure Foundation Products for the Delivery of Advanced Network Services at ANGA Cable 2004

Motorola builds upon its broadband market leadership with a series of four new HFC network infrastructure products to allow cable operators to offer advanced network services to consumers.

KÖLN, Germany, 12 May 2004 — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today extended its infrastructure product portfolio with the introduction of four new products for Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) networks. These products form an essential foundation for broadband operators to reliably deploy advanced services – enabling them to deliver Motorola’s “connected home” experience to subscribers.

Motorola’s new HFC products include the Motorola OmniStar® GX2 Mini-Chassis, Motorola MPN Modular Pedestal Node, and two bi-directional amplifiers -- the Motorola IVK87*/* House Amplifier, and the Motorola SLE87*/* Starline® Line Extender. These four solutions complement Motorola’s existing suite of infrastructure products to accommodate the varying network requirements for video-on-demand (VOD), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony, high-speed Internet data, and more. These additional services allow consumers to stay informed, entertained and connected throughout their homes.

The space-saving and cost-effective mini-chassis for the Motorola OmniStar GX2 optical broadband transmission platform provides a valuable solution for system requirements that only require a few application modules. The product is ideally suited to remote locations or low-density applications such as a long transport link that requires a single mid-span optical amplifier or delivering video and data services to a school with one forward-path receiver and one return transmitter. The two-rack unit mini-chassis utilizes the same application modules as the high-density, four rack-unit Motorola OmniStar GX2 Chassis.

The Motorola MPN is a scalable optical node for pedestal applications that utilizes leading technology developed in Motorola's SG4000 Modular Optical Node. This ability enables cable operators to cost effectively enhance their networks as they require.

Motorola also announced two bi-directional amplifiers: The Motorola IVK87*/* House Amplifier is a cost effective and reliable in-home amplifier for improving signal quality throughout the home, and the Motorola SLE87*/* Starline® Line Extender, which offers cable operators a high performing amplifier solution in a design that has been optimized to reduce system costs.

“Built on the same innovation and knowledge that has made Motorola Broadband the leader in cable networks for more than 50 years, these infrastructure products deliver unique solutions for our customers today,” said Chuck Dougherty, Motorola vice president and general manager, network infrastructure solutions. “Today’s announcement is a great example of Motorola’s commitment to providing end-to-end solutions for EMEA cable operators, helping them deliver the ‘connected home’ experience to their customers.”

Motorola’s new HFC products will be showcased at ANGA Cable 2004 (Koln, Germany) at the Motorola stand B4, Hall 13.1.
