Motorola Introduces Scalable 10/20 Gigabit
per Second Ethernet Platform for Streaming Video-on-Demand
Transport
The new Motorola
Multiservice Wavelength Transport Ethernet Aggregation 200 (MWT EA 200) combines
high density Ethernet aggregation with optical transport.
HORSHAM, Pa. – 14 June 2004 –
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today introduced the Multiservice Wavelength Transport
Ethernet Aggregation 200 (MWT EA 200), a powerful platform that leverages
low-cost Ethernet aggregation technology and high-performance 10 Gbps optical
transport technology to deliver video-on-demand and other Ethernet services over
a fiber-optic network. Motorola will showcase the platform at the SCTE
Cable-Tec Expo (June 15-18, Orange County Convention Center, Booth
2343).
Designed to provide a cost-effective and
flexible architecture to enable services such as Video-On-Demand (VOD), the
Motorola MWT EA 200 supports Ethernet aggregation and unidirectional or
bidirectional transmission services over two 10 Gbps Dense Wavelength Division
Multiplexing (DWDM) ITU compliant optical carriers.
Offering up to 20 Gbps of Ethernet aggregation
and transport into each compact two-rack unit (2RU) chassis, the Motorola EA 200
decreases the equipment rack space previously required by other transport
platforms This optical element also offers cost-effective scalability in single
Gigabit Ethernet increments through the use of Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP)
components. The EA-200 supports a variety of client-side SFP interfaces,
offering flexibility to use copper, 850 nm multimode, 1310 nm single mode, or
1550 CWDM optics. With 10 Gbps ITU wavelengths, multiple EA-200s can be
optically multiplexed to transport up to 40 wavelengths of 10 Gigabit Ethernet
traffic on a single fiber.
Providing true
multiservice convergence, the EA 200 complements the existing Motorola MWT
family of products. The product can easily be integrated with any industry
standard DWDM optical networking solutions for capacity growth up to 40
wavelengths. Together with the SmartStream™ Interactive Digital Cable
System, the EA 200 is a powerful solution in Motorola’s end-to-end
portfolio for operators looking to deliver VOD services over
fiber.
“Motorola’s broad portfolio
of infrastructure solutions enables operators to leverage our experience in
delivering applications over broadband – enabling them to offer
‘connected home’ services throughout their network, regardless of
access platform,” said Charles
Dougherty, Motorola corporate vice president, and general
manager, network infrastructure solutions. “With the introduction of the
Motorola EA 200, operators deploying VOD and other Ethernet-based services over
fiber can take advantage of our array of solutions for the end-to-end transport
of content and services.”
