Motorola Reaches Cable Modem Milestone in
EMEA Region
One million cable
modems shipped in first half of
2004
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 8
September 2004 — Motorola, Inc (NYSE:MOT) experienced continued growth in
its cable modem product line during the first two quarters of 2004 and is
pleased to announce that it is has shipped one million Euro-DOCSIS/DOCSIS cable
modems within the first half of the
year.
According to EMEA market sales figures
published by Infonetics[1], Motorola
maintains its number one market share position in the first half of 2004. The
growth in the market, coupled with Motorola’s commitment to product
innovation, saw cable modem sales double in the first half of 2004 compared to
the equivalent timeframe in 2003. This milestone demonstrates and strengthens
Motorola’s position as the world’s leading cable modem provider,
with cumulative shipments in excess of 17.4 million modems, approximately 40%
worldwide market share, as of Q2
2004.
“Despite strong competition from
DSL, cable service providers in EMEA are not only holding their own, but seeing
real improvements in broadband take-up and Motorola has helped to drive this
growth by delivering a range of robust cable modem products, said Richard Webb,
broadband market analyst with Infonetics. “By adding voice and wireless
capabilities to their cable portfolio, Motorola is supporting continued future
market growth and cementing their position as the number one cable CPE vendor in
EMEA.”
“Shipping our one millionth
cable modem during the first half of 2004 is a testimony to our continued growth
and market leadership. This milestone is not only a credit to Motorola’s
technology, but also shows the progress made in the EMEA broadband
market,” said Paul King, vice president and general manager, Motorola
EMEA. “Motorola’s supply chain process in region allows us to be
flexible and responsive to meet the varying customer needs for product
customization.”
