Taiwan Broadband Communications Selects
Motorola to Supply Equipment for Delivery of Advanced Broadband
Services
Motorola supports
TBC’s aggressive rollout of VoIP solutions to subscribers in Taiwan with
industry-leading technologies

November 2004 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has been
selected by Taiwan Broadband Communications Company Ltd., (TBC) as the preferred
supplier of advanced broadband service solutions for TBC’s deployment of
VoIP and high-speed data services in
Taiwan.
Motorola will provide both the network
infrastructure and consumer premise cable modems with integrated telephony
features for the upgrade. These include the Motorola Broadband Services
Router (BSR) 64000, which has the ability to scale as TBC expands its
network with voice and high-speed data offerings, and the Motorola
SBV4200 modem, which will allow TBC’s customers to easily and cost
effectively experience broadband telephony in their homes.
In addition, TBC has made a commitment to
Motorola’s next-generation, DOCSIS 2.0, voice-enabled cable modem, the
Motorola SBV5120. Motorola’s telephony cable modems offer advanced
voice-over-IP (VoIP) features including three-way calling, caller ID and call
forwarding. All products are compliant with the latest industry standards and
extend the feature set of the company’s proven platform for IP services,
integrating capabilities such as VoIP telephony and high-speed data.

The Motorola BSR64000 has been
deployed in TBC’s largest system for almost 2 years. TBC expects to begin
shipping the SBV4200 and the SBV5120 by the end of
2004.

BSR64000 The carrier-class Motorola BSR64000
CMTS/edge router allows broadband providers to rapidly introduce reliable data,
voice and multimedia services for both corporate and residential subscribers, as
well as deliver QoS levels end-to-end from the network edge to the network core.
Its high-density design - based on centralized routing and distributed filtering
and forwarding - provides the benefits of simple and scalable performance. The
BSR64000 is DOCSIS® 1.1, PacketCable™ 1.0, and Euro-DOCSIS 1.1
qualified.

SBV4200 The Motorola SBV4200 provides two lines
of toll-quality voice service and supports standard voice service features such
as caller-ID, call-waiting, and call-forwarding. The Motorola SBV4200 functions
as a communications gateway, allowing subscribers to connect PCs, standard
analog telephones, fax machines and other voice appliances into one unit for
their high-speed Internet access and telephone
service.

SBV5120 The Motorola SBV5120 is the newest
member of Motorola’s family of telephony cable modems, providing an
integrated solution for voice telephony services and high-speed Internet access.
The product combines a multimedia telephony adapter with a
PacketCableTM- based cable modem which was recently certified for
DOCSIS® 2.0 and 1.1 (CW28), and Euro-DOCSIS
2.0.
The Motorola SBV5120 allows consumers to
use their existing home telephone wiring to power two lines of voice service,
and supports all class features
including:
• Basic call functionality
• Three-way calling
• Caller ID
• Call forwarding
• Voicemail messaging
• Optional battery
back-up
